Member of the DJIA with it's fingers in everything. Pays a fair dividend yield of 3.4%, (purchased at 15.20 yield is better.) and deals with anything from finance to wind energy, jet engines to toasters while maintaining a P/E of 20.37

GE will outperform. Because of their lackluster performance, I feel as though they will begin to feel pressure from investors if stock price does not show some pop. After large gains in a number of sectors, people will begin to shift to solid dividend players with potential for upside like GE. My only concern is that I have seen many large companies try to reinvent themselves and fail. Sometimes I think GE is to big, prevent them from being as innovative as they need to be in this industry.

GE has been reducing its exposure to financials. It has also been working on improving its manufacturing process. It will continue to spend on research and development thereby reducing cost of its goods. The company will increase its gross margin.

As the global economy recovers, GE Capital is divested, and GE rights itself, I think it's due for at least a short term outperform. The stock also pays a 3.5% dividend and plans to buy back 3.2% of it's stock, which should give it a good base to jump from as well.

GE's recently announced spinoff of its North American retail finance unit is evidence that the company is making an effort to reduce its exposure to GE Capital, a unit that I've never personally been all that fond of. I view the move as a positive. I don't think that GE is going to set the world on fire, but I can see it outperforming the S&P 500 and that's the point here in CAPS right?

Come on. It's GE. Has holdings in practically every industry, a culture conducive to innovation and the clout to force out the competition. Far as holdings companies go this is (possibly?!?) only second to Berkshire.

Shrinking defense budget. GE is trying to get into new energy businesses but I doubt it is nimble enough to compete in these areas.

Big company with a steady dividend. While they seem to be doing some to spin off assets to try and find some growth again, I would expect the same steady performance over the long-run with solid dividend payouts.

simple - diversification. Jet engines especially strong given market share and the long cycle spare parts/service agreements that create a huge backlog of cash/income. unlike the airframe manufacturers who realy upon margin at delivery, ge aviation's plan is to just get the engines selected and then know that the spare parts stream will produce profits for the next 20 years or more - life of a/c.

GE currently has a $4 channel by my charts. It hit the bottom of that channel at 24.32, that would have bee my choice to load up, but I was slow on the draw and almost a dollar late. But it still has plenty of room to the upper channel of $28.52 and a continuous grind up. If the S&P has another amazing year then it probably won't beat or even keep up... but I do expect a good 6.5 to 10% growth per year (incl. div) for the next few years.

One of the bluest of the blue chips. I am inclined to gradually rotate out of small caps, and take a more defensive position. I have been burned with dividend stocks, and they don't look good in light of the Fed policy of gradually tightening the money supply, so I am going on defense.
