GE is a classic blue-chip with very little downside - because the business is so diversified, there's little chance of it tanking except due to macro trends. Oh, and there's a 3% dividend, so that's cool too.

So, reason why GE is ze place to be:

Macro trends. GE derives about 10-15% of its revenues from oil-related products, and much of its current downward trend appears to be thanks to the oil price. Oil can go lower, but it's unlikely to stay there for more than a few months, barring a world-wide economic slowdown. There are some indications of this - the price of copper trending downwards without a corresponding increase in supply - but I'm confident enough in GE's leadership that this won't be a huge issue.

I might sell if it gets near the 52 wk high in a short period of time because I think a lot of value here is timing, but I'd be comfortable going long on it too. Because, y'know, it's GE.

I really don't like the look of GE in the long run, they have increasing debt and terrible growth rates. This is a stock I would stay away from.

Very diversified. Doesn't just make light bulbs. Once it gathers momentum it should do well.

This stock is still too low after the beating it took from their real estate division a few years ago. This company has too many products used by too many people to be sitting at this price. I'm buying this for the long haul.

General Electric is a company that I would not want to bet against. GE has a world-class brand and a world-class portfolio of products that ranges from jet engines to light bulbs. The company has been one of the most relevant companies of the last century, and it's not going anywhere, yet. With its eyes towards a future that emphasizes energy production, aerospace technologies, as well as other long-term needs, General Electric is continuing to innovate and provide high-quality solutions to the most complicated problems. I'm pretty sure that there aren't very many management teams in the entire world that could do what GE does on a daily basis. If this company hasn't been taken out yet, I don't know what will. If you believe in the general strength of North America and the global economy for the next 50 years, you can't go wrong with this titan.

Strong as a stock can get, Immelt finally did the right thing and brought GE back to it's industrial roots. Spinning off teh credit business was a smart move. Industrial orders are in the BILLIONS in back order, once executed GE will see even more revenue growth.

Sh-it company based on long term capital accumulation but debt accumulation has outpaced the their ability to innovate cost effective solutions to advance new business ventures quick enough to off-set the drag.

They have been shedding a lot of their low margin businesses
and are getting back to they are really good at, large industrial equipment.
I think they are undervalued and getting ready to take off.
Being a good dividend stock is icing on the cake.

As the economy slowly improves, GE will do well with its infrastructure, and large industrial components.
