Monday's open should be ugly for the investment banks but Goldman will come out of this mess stronger as a result of the implosion of its competitors

Goldman has poven again and again that its risk management skills are supieror. This stock, like most other financials, have taken a hit since late in 2007, but this is more an indication of weakness in the industry rather than problems with Goldman. However, the stock price has found support and as investors start coming back to financials, they will be looking for quality firms such as Gokdman.

GS has a very attractive PE and the best of the brokerage firms. This stock is also a good swing trade and well as long term trade in my opinion.

They seem to have very strong fundamentals in relation to many of their competitors. I think this recession will give GS a chance to stamp their logos on a little bit more of the financials' market cap. They are very keen with their trading practices. And often they are downright scandalous and unfair, but hey, Washington is letting them get away with it. GS has the gov't in its pockets pretty much. Or rather, has the gov'ts pockets are stuffed with lots of "pick me!" cash. For these reasons, GS will succeed.

They are the best at what they do. This is the era of globalization. Smart minds can search for opportunities to invest capital across wider areas. GS takes advantage of that.

GS is simply the best of breed I-bank.

Not that you could go wrong owning any of them at the moment -- these guys should be trading at a PE of 15 or so, not 10 as they are. The market seems convinced that today's strong profits are temporary, and I don't find the arguments to that effect very compelling.
