Trying to make some points on recent drama surrounding the company (SEC suit), probably unfounded for long term purposes. Starting at $140 on 4-20-2010.

have no thoughts- but it sort of stands to reason that the "public" will be turned off with this new revelation of the fraud and chicanery....but then the human brain can't hold onto an o pinion too long, and so they will come back nto favor

GS will definately outperform the market in a four year period . with the current government administration going for americas financial throat and grabbing funds from whoever and also going after GS to support financial regulation will end with the ousting of the administration . even though GS is a bit arrigant they can back it up with their results .

Given that Goldman Sachs has mislead nations especially the EU about Greece and other underhanded dealings I don't see how anybody can trust them for a long time and isn't that the bedrock of the GS philosophy? (People do business with them because the trust people have in them)

The last privately owned brokerage firm probably not going away very soon representing the best of the best I the US and worldwide (I used to sit in there meetings 22 years). They have attracted the most talent professionals new, established and the most recruiting (400 a year). Maybe they will adopt the long standing former reliability and conservative style of Paine Weber, now own by the underwater UBS.

Unless clients revolt, GS will still find a way to make money. Given their connections in business and government, they hold the edge

GS will outperform because $160 is an attractive price given the fundamentals. Forget all the noise - Goldman Sachs is not Enron, and they'll be fine in the long run.

In the short run, however, expect some serious volatility. The Democrats have made the strategic decision to hang their hats on financial reform as their "winning issue" for November, and have every incentive to keep Goldman in the news. Even if the SEC action gets settled out (as I suspect it will), Congress and the Administration will take up the slack with further hearings and investigations.

That will cause a lot of fear, but we are already seeing a good deal of buying pressure in the 150s. It will be a bumpy ride, but GS will make you money in the long run.

... a little noise about one given company is enough to cool down interest of the market for that company.....a BIG NOISE creates a turmoil that may last for years.....

With the economy, the Market, and every day prevailing business and personal financial situations, the majority of the 'public' investors and 'non-investors' GS is embroiled in 'just another' perceived rip-off, or scam. The majority of the public opinion is already fed up with the doing business as usual by some of these large financial and brokerage firms; this will be similar to'the icing on the the cake'. GS is really screwed. regardless of how this whole thing is handled. They are the newest victim of all the spending that has angered the masses......

Speaking as a financial astrologer, it looks pretty good for GS during the next few months. They have a nice run of good aspects to their horoscope. The suit will give them very positive publicity because it will explain that every investor is given transparent information concerning their products. The investor is then cautioned to READ the information.
