This company is quietly establishing all the right plays. It has acquired large amounts of acreage in developing plays. It is also managing cash very well and finding ways to cut costs as develops new wells. The downside is being a small company makes it more vulnerable to swings in the market price of gas as well as paying high prices for the money it does acquire (12.5% on notes currently due 2012). However, I believe as we move to a greener (environmentally and hopefully through my portfolio as well) that natural gas will increase in demand. It is one of the cleanest fossil fuels. I am currently positioned at an average price of 2.40 and expext to see 3.50-4.00 within 12 months which makes 1.77 a great opportunity to get in.

I don't expect a significant return on this pick until the end of '08 at the earliest, probably not until mid '09. Everything is going to hinge on getting their permits to develop their land in Australia (PEL 238, which is a joint venture I believe). They have a pending contract with a local natural gas company to supply 500 BCF of natural gas over the next decade. Once/if they can get all the permits and begin production this company is going to experience extraordinary sales and income growth. A higher risk than many of the established companies, but I believe it will prove to be the linchpin in my portfolio. producing several hundred percent growth by the end of '09.

Natural gas and exploration---we need more energy and they are providing it.

This is a speculative small cap stock that is actually making money in the natural gas industry. At some point, I would expect it to be taken over by Chesapeake Energy. They already own a chunk of Gastar's stock, and with Natural Gas continuing to trend higher, this company's future is brighter than ever.

Moved into profit margin very nicely with still a lot of exploration and development. Positioned nicely, believe that institutions are buying up stock. Potential is enormous with an increase in demand for some time to come. Truly believe this stock will take off, expect new high range to be broken before next quarterly earnings report. Expect next earnings report to push stock up another 15% minimum.

"Global natural gas statistics are far fuzzier than our global oil statistics but a litany of data points suggest that the world’s gas supplies might be peaking, too. Since gas declines far faster than oil due to the simple fact that gas is a vapor while oil tends to be more like a syrup, the risk of gas peaking and then declining quite rapidly has more long-lasting consequences than that of peak oil.

Oil and gas supplies will peak. The only debate is when and then how fast they will both decline. Today, we lack hard data to begin proving how real this risk is. As long as the world is happy with a “Trust Me” system, we will remain in the dark and ultimately discover that the world’s two most important energy supplies peaked by using a rear view mirror."

price decline unrelated to drilling for gas. instead, seems to be contract-related regarding outside financing (for operations) and original deal with chesapeake to maintain specified ownership interests. bargain at $2.10 on 6/6/07.

Gastar Exploration, Ltd. engages in the exploration, development, and production of natural gas and oil in the United States and Australia. Gastar is poistioned beautifully in the deep Bossier play in the Hilltop area in East Texas. Management is working well within cash-flow constraints to begin developing reserves and turning GST into a cash machine assuming continued strong demand for natural gas.
