As long as geopolitics can stay semi-sane HAL is well positioned to reap gains from the industry.

Halliburton is a huge, iconic technological oil service company participating in the large surge in USA continental drilling resurgence drilling and re-working old well established oil fields to rejuvenate and enhance oil and gas recovery with recently developed new techniques. The shares, well near highs still have great potential ahead over the next three to five years.

Halliburton shares are a strong BUY.

They are the key to the "fracking" business and that is the best technology for energy independence.

Recent news proves there have been some great buying opportunities for HAL shares since, despite reality, many people hear/see nothing beyond shock-value headline phrases like "plead guilty" and "destroyed evidence" and are immediately anxious to make ignorant claims without considering the more important details like what that so-called "evidence" was. I'm sure you've seen some of the stuff I'm talking about ... there are actually articles arguing that Halliburton's CEO should go to prison! The bottom line is quite simple ... BP repeatedly behaved absolutely atrociously and, in order to satisfy political pressures, Halliburton had to be guilty by association ... of a misdemeanor.

Important to note from the HAL press release: "A Halliburton subsidiary has agreed to plead guilty to one misdemeanor violation associated with the deletion of records created after the Macondo well incident, to pay the statutory maximum fine of $200,000 and to accept a term of three years probation."

The "evidence" was test results done after the accident that seemed to show that those tests were irrelevant to the accident, although I'm sure the DoJ would've preferred to make that decision. For details, see the HAL release and the DoJ release ... to understand the significance of what happened, it's necessary to read both (and other sources of details about the accident). This a token slap on the wrist for an infraction that the DoJ clearly considers immaterial to the broader case and the far more serious offenses by the company responsible for the accident in the first place. From the accounts of witnesses from all the companies, it's pretty clear that, of all the companies present at Macondo, Halliburton had no real involvement in causing the accident.

Personally, I'm hoping for another round of Halliburton bashing so I can finish backing up the truck at ridiculous prices.

With the persistent instability in the middle east oil companies are becoming weary of continuing operations in unstable regions. The U.S. is predicted to have another energy boom and Halliburton will profit off of it. I seem them growing in the next 5 years.

Haliburton is facing some headwinds with low natural gas prices, high guar prices, and tempering rig counts. However, the company has transformed itself into an integrated solutions provider -- almost like the IBM of the oil services industry -- where it becomes embedded in its customers' well sites. It's revenue is therefore sticky and that helps build lasting relationships. New business tends to center around unconventional wells which are much more service intensive and oil companies who are looking to avoid reputation risk due to heightened regulatory scrutiny will probably prefer to do business with fewer servicers for easier to track accountability. These secular trends play to HALs strengths.

This stock has rebounded off of recent lows, but the shares still look cheap. It also pays a dividend yield of about 1%, which is not significant, but it could be poised to raise the dividend substantially in the coming years, as the payout ratio is just around 10% of earnings.
