OK, this stock definitely wins the stupid award of the day.
"Harman International Industries, Incorporated (Harman International) is engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of high-fidelity audio products and electronic systems." This sentence should end with "in a recession." Can anyone say "lack of consumer discretionary spending?" Sure you can!
The company announced a loss (yes, loss) in 2Q of $.05 cents a share beating estimates of a $0.23 a share loss. And the shareholders got OH SOOOO excited so they bid the stock up 21% in a single day? Boy and I thought the market was looking for just about ANY GOOD NEWS to bid up the market, silly me. This is a firm that has not made a single cent in the past 5 quarters of operations. And its 2011 forecasted P/E is now 31. Give me a break. This company hasn't even proven it can make money in a single quarter and yet it deserves a multiple like that?
Have I mentioned the debt or book value? So they have $631MM in debt, book value of 2.5, a negative ROE and massive Capital Expenditures burning through their operating cash.
This looks so tasty I may have to buy a few puts and see what happens.

Severely undervalued on a discounted FCFE basis using conservative growth estimates. Unfortunately, the company's business is cyclical - so, may have to wait a little for the car market to pick up.

I believe that the bottom has been reached for this audio equipment maker. Trying to value pick in this market is very difficult as this stock has tumbled nearly 60% year over year. Competition is also a concern, but hoping that Brand recognition (IN BMWs) offsets some of that risk or may simply be a takeover target at this low valuation.

Harmon is a solid company with some star-quality brands, but recent problems that have combined with an economic downturn to place its stock in the bargain bin. Dinesh Paliwal, the recently hired CEO, has a proven ability to stabilize companies in distress (see his success with ABB) and put them on a path appreciated by institutional investors. If Dinesh were to leave Harmon, then every sane investor should do likewise. With him in place, this is a risk worth taking.

Jumped in on this stock a little to soon but it will turn around. Great car audio, EX: BMW, compared to ROFO EX: Nissan. I have vehicles with both sound systems and can easily say that HAR far outshines it's competition in automotive audio sector. People will pay to have premium sound that is noticeably better than stock.
