Been to Home Depot recently? Me neither.

Housing refi spigot has been turned off. Americans don't have the cash to pay for kitchen upgrades, new hard wood floors, or other big ticket upgrades, and our credit cards are maxed out.

The market has already discounted this stock quite a bit. They've announced 15 store closings. The worst is over.

This a BUY! If you can get it on a DIP, even better......
The Home Depot, Inc., incorporated in 1978, is a home improvement retailer. The Company, together with its subsidiaries, operates The Home Depot stores, which are full-service, warehouse-style stores. The Home Depot stores sell an assortment of building materials, home improvement, and lawn and garden products, which are sold to do-it-yourself (D-I-Y) customers, do-it-for-me (D-I-F-M) customers, home improvement contractors, trades people and building maintenance professionals. In addition, the Company operates EXPO Design Center stores (EXPO), which offer products and services primarily related to design and renovation projects. As of February 3, 2008, the Company operated 2,234 stores in total, which included 1,950 The Home Depot stores, 34 EXPO stores, five Yardbirds stores and two THD Design Center stores in the United States (including the territories of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam), 165 The Home Depot stores in Canada, 66 The Home Depot stores in Mexico and 12 The Home Depot stores in China.

On August 30, 2007, the Company completed the sale of HD Supply. In connection with the sale, the Company purchased a 12.5% equity interest in the newly formed HD Supply. During fiscal year ended February 3, 2008 (fiscal 2007), The Home Depot, Inc. acquired Ohio Water & Waste Supply, Inc. and Geosynthetics, Inc. These acquisitions operated under HD Supply and were included in the disposition.

A typical Home Depot store stocks 35,000 to 45,000 products, including both national brand name and own items. During fiscal 2007, plumbing, electrical and kitchen product groups, hardware and seasonal product groups, building materials, lumber and millwork product groups, and paint and flooring product groups accounted for 31%, 28%, 22.3% and 18.7%, respectively, of the Company's net sales. Through its Eco Options Program, the Company has created product categories that allow consumers to identify environmentally preferred product selections in its stores. To complement its product selection, The Home Depot, Inc. has formed strategic alliances and exclusive relationships with selected suppliers to market products under a variety of brand names. During fiscal 2007, it offered a number of own and exclusive brands across a range of departments, including, but not limited to, Behr Premium Plus paint, Charmglow gas grills, Hampton Bay lighting, Vigoro lawn care products, Husky hand tools, RIDGID and Ryobi power tools, Pegasus faucets, Traffic Master carpet, Glacier Bay bath fixtures and Veranda decking products.

The Home Depot, Inc.'s stores offer a variety of installation services. These services target D-I-F-M customers who select and purchase products and installation of those products from the Company. These installation programs include products, such as carpeting, flooring, cabinets, countertops and water heaters. In addition, the Company provides professional installation of a number of products sold through its in-home sales programs, such as generators and furnace and central air systems. During fiscal 2007, The Home Depot, Inc. closed its 11 The Home Depot Landscape Supply stores and its two The Home Depot Floor stores. The Company offers six credit programs through third-party credit providers to professional, D-I-Y and D-I-F-M customers. During fiscal 2007, approximately 4.3 million new The Home Depot credit accounts were opened, and the total number of The Home Depot active account holders was approximately 13 million. Proprietary credit card sales accounted for approximately 29% of store sales in fiscal 2007.

The Home Depot stores serve three primary customer groups: D-I-Y customers, D-I-F-M customers and professional customers. D-I-Y customers are typically home owners who purchase products and complete their own projects and installations. To complement the capabilities of its associates, The Home Depot stores offer how-to clinics taught by associates and merchandise vendors. D-I-F-M customers are typically home owners who purchase materials themselves and hire third parties to complete the project and/or installation. The Company arranges for the installation of a variety of The Home Depot products through independent contractors. Professional customers include professional remodelers, general contractors, repairmen, small business owners and tradesmen. In many stores, the Company offers a variety of programs to these customers, including additional delivery and will-call services, dedicated staff, extensive merchandise selections and expanded credit programs.
