I just can't see it performing against Sports Authority and Dicks Sporting goods, the stores just don't seem as new and upbeat. It like strip mall survival for them. Less than 3% rev growth TTM and a -15% EPS growth has me lining them up for shorting.

Better than expected results means buy buy buy, right? Wrong. The worst is yet to come for the US consumer.

retail has been hit hard; small sporting goods company which should not be hurt by recession
Recs
Honestly, this is a screen short. Small discretionary retail companies with no economic moat will get killed in this market.
Also, I'm short stocks with weak relative strength and 6 or more months of under performance.

Great "Wall-Mart like" business plan. They even use Wal-Mart like those fish that hang onto whales and eat the food they leave behind. Whatever that word is...
Recs
Too strong fundamentally to be getting hit so hard this year...a few earnings reports later, expect a nice boost.

Not even close to done growing. Sells a wide variety of items in a smaller store setting than Sports authority. This allows them to focus on specific products and brands that consistantly sell. Sports are getting more popular once again. The down to earth management team should grow this egg smartly and with results for shareholders with a long term outlook.

Hibbett Sporting, a favorite of all sports’ fans, operates sporting goods stores in small and mid-sized markets in the Sunbelt, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest regions of the United States. The company's merchandise assortment features a core selection of brand name merchandise emphasizing individual team sports complemented by a selection of localized apparel and accessories. The company’s stores offer athletic equipments, footwear, and apparels.
Overall sporting goods industry is highly fragmentated. In 2005, the top five public sporting goods retailers recorded a market share of only 13%. However, sporting goods are currently outpacing retail sales growth (ex-auto) primarily driven by the steady inflow of and shift toward technical products across the sporting goods spectrum (apparel, footwear, and hard goods). Retail sales of sporting goods in the U.S. approximated $51.3 billion in 2005, and are expected to reach $53 billion in 2006.
Hibbett’s generates 80% of its the revenue from apparel and footwear sales, it’s Gross margins and operating margins are the highest among its public peers. One of the hallmarks of Hibbett’s performance throughout its tenure as a public company has been its consistent ability to generate same-store sales growth. Hibbett’s low operating costs are due to its locations in small towns, constant checking of inventory aging, turnover, and improvements in its warehouse management.
Hibbett has given the best returns on equity to its public peer group. It will commence fiscal 2007 with the implementation of JDA Software enterprise-wide merchandise planning, which will aid product management at a more detailed level. Looking at the strong fundamentals, Hibbett displays an optimistic performance in future.
