As one who had traveled to China frequently and stayed in many of China's economic Hotels (a Lodging/Travel category HMIN is quickly dominating), I would have to admit Home Inns' service/price combination wins by a big margin. In 2006, I have stayed at different Home Inns in different cities of China for a cumulative 40+days, while one of my partners have done 60 days so far. We had many other choices, including other big chains such as JingJiang Star, Super 8, etc. But IMHO, the others just did not get the right touch to be the best econo hotel chain in China. Super 8 may be doing great in the states, but not in China. JingJiang Star may be a great player in the high-end travel segment, but not the best in the econo sector. Admittedly, China's econo lodging/travel sector is expanding rapidly, and there will be plenty of rooms for multiple players. But if you have to pick the best to invest, it is HMIN. Period.

China has more than 1.6 billion people. Its one of the most popular tourist destinations on Earth. Olympic site in '08. HMIN runs hotels. You do the math.
