Somebody has to power this monster and HNP takes a design/build/manage approach. This approach is the growing trend in construction and is the favorite with private owners and government agencies when they are looking for contractors. This holds true in the energy sector,as well. The difference with HNP.....they are also the owner.

Power generation will be vital to China's future in the next decade, and HNP stands to benefit from 1) being a Chinese company operating in China 2) being a private company and 3) having a head start in this market.

Electricity demand in China - well DUH ! As long as the government doesn't fool with the market, and I personally think they can no longer afford to do so, given China's desire for world captital inflows.

Very strong company in an energy commodity industry. That it is in China probably won't hurt it much, at least for a few years. :^)

Largest public owned electric utility in China. Conpany has first right of refusal on any sale of electric utility by government. With the expected growth of the Chinese economy over next 25 years..... This last year the company has been digesting 6 major electric power plant purchases from the government while at the same time building 3 major plants of its own construction. With that completed 2007-9 will see it acquiring addition power plants increasing its electric output three fold as it expands the area's it services and moves into new areas. Since last summer the company is allowed to pass along the rising cost of coal to create the electricity to its users. With the price of coal having stabilized and to a degree fallen the HNP can now lock in prices with long term contracts that are beneficial for the future. Hnp has as well diversifying its energy source by building hydro and planned nuclear power plants. With China having become the manufacturing center for the world and an increasing population becoming middle class the need for electricity will continue growing well into the 21st century. HNP presantly pays a 4% dividend paying out more then 50% of earnings to stock holders. Trades on NYSE and Hong Kong exchanges. Companies debt is in U.S. dollars so stands to benefit nicely as Yuan rises.
