Dividends are not enough to offset the risk of a "basket" of stocks having too many losers. Biotech requires picking the right stocks and ignoring all the fluff, which is why I don't go there any more. Even those stocks that have 5 stars from CAPS don't get my attention because I feel the political climate in the US congress today is down on pharmaceuticals. Too many drugs being recalled because of serious side effects in the news. Will be tougher to get anything approved in the next few years.
