Up 300 % in the past 5 years. Its simply overvalued.
Sure devaluation of currencies could cause it to get even more absurd....and that is likely but I dont think it will outperform the stock market at this point. Its market cap is over 15 billion. Spam is not a growth story....some of their packaged meat products are okay....I dont understand the organic meat acquisition. This company doesnt know that area and imo will have a hard talking anyone into the fact they do know it. I would never buy organic meat from the maker of Spam. Sorry. Never ever. 25 PE is super rich. Value stocks look riskier than growth stocks these days. Safe stocks are up so much....they make traditional growth look cheap even by comparison. I am looking for some of these "safe" plays like HRL....that I feel comfortable using as a longer term short position to hold as a hedge.

Another 2011 pick that is starting to show the wisdom of buying quality companies that pay a dividend.

Exactly the type of stock that will perform well as globalization increases. Cheap staples/consumables for convenience and comfort, simple luxuries, and so on. Increasing middle classes in developing countries will be looking for things like this. On top of that, the company is a proven performer, and has excellent revenue and earnings per-employee versus its peers in the market.
