Carla pick for dividends
Recs
pure dividend play

Most excitement to be had with a 9% dividend! IPO's such as Facebook and Ancestry don't usually offer a dividend. HTGC is a way to take a risk and get both a div and possible big appreciation.
Graham number of 14.56, well under the share price today of $10.70.
A just for fun risk worth taking, although I wouldn't mortgage the house to buy HTGC.

I just want to be a venture capitalist!

only way us peons can play Silicon Valley startups.

Can you say dividends?

T Rowe Price and Vanguard are both in here.
Slow mover but good dividend

From an individual investor perspective this is your best chance at getting in on a business that operates in an area of finance that at a time was only reserved for the big money individuals and institutions. You are getting in relatively early on a very dynamic and promising organization run by some of the best minds. You are also being paid for holding. Buy and hold think of as a holding company in its infancy like getting in in the beginning of BH.

no debt, good margins, nice dividend.

This is a great Silicon Valley BDC. They do venture debt and do it well....lend at good rates of return and take warrants from growth companies which provide an equity kicker. Occasionally, they invest in venture-backed companies outright. They seem to be weathering the downturn in the economy very well.

HTGC has about the best credit quality of any of the BDCs, a superior yield that it can't just arbitrarily cut the way a conventional company can, and I like it.
I am long HTGC in real life from lower prices, but I am still a buyer today.
If the CAPs game incorporates divi's into scores in some intelligent way, the HTGC should be a nicely winning pick over time.

htgc is a bargain at this price. fools a buy & hold now for 3/5 years & you will be a debt free fool!!!!!!
