Every one has to cut back travel plans. Stay home and go watch a movie at the mall.

This stock is still under the radar. Exciting offerings in it's theaters and recent possitive figures at the box office will highlight it. In addition 100 new theaters being built will make it attractive at this price level.
Recs
This is an ideal recession industry, as people trade down from more expensive forms of entertainment to the (relatively) cheap going to the movies. Meanwhile the company has been a good turnaround story for the past several years as they have gotten their house back in order, and transitioned from niche science firms to blockbuster movies. They are continuing to add theaters and growing at a healthy pace. Meanwhile, the October 2008 crash has decimated the stock price back to its multiyear lows. Even so, as I write this, it is still outperforming the S&P500 since I made this call almost two years ago. They will do great if they can continue to execute well.
Recs
It has a good product.Temporary problems have driven the price down to very likeable positions.

Since CAPS doesnt have a double down feature I had to close out my original call with a loss. Although this company has a lot of bad news lately, and a lot of it deserved, this company is worth more than 3.50 a share and will see a significant rise after next quarters results.
Recs
They will find a buyer eventualy and in the mean time they continue to expand. What moor could you ask? I hope the money holds out!

Saw U2 3D on an IMAX. Best thing I have ever seen in a movie theater. Revolutionary experience. Betting Avatar will make a ton of money at IMAX.

IMAX is a solid long term investment. It has a stellar brand name, superior technology, and is positioned to profit from current trends. However, it is in trouble with litigation from a creditor and has delayed financial disclosures. It has not had a profitable year since 2005. They probably won't start to make money until the end of this year.
Movie goers will drive to a far away cinema and pay a substantial premium to have an "IMAX experience." IMAX films are huge. The screen fill your entire field of view bringing you into the film. They run the movie at 48 frames per second instead of the standard 24. This makes fast action much smoother and brings out details of fast movie objects. 24 frames per second really is too slow for any movie with even moderately fast motion. Even DVD is 30 frames per second. HDTV can be up to 60. If you are actually interested in investing watch "Dark Night" at an IMAX theater when it comes out. Even if a competitor came out with a better system people will still demand IMAX because of the "IMAX experience" brand.
I briefly mentioned that HDTV has a higher frame rate than standard films. It also has equivalent picture quality. In some cases better because HDTV does not have the jitter of standard film projectors (IMAX fixes this with a proprietary system). Its cheaper to rent a movie than to watch it in a theater. Because of this I almost never go to the theater anymore. According to the MPAA, admissions are down from 1.44 billion in 2001 and 1.6 billion in 2002 to 1.4 billion in 2007.
Despite sales being hampered by customers wanting to wait for digital IMAX, over the last few months, IMAX has inked a huge number of deals for new IMAX theaters around the world with AMC, Brasil, and China. Once the digital system is ready in the second half of 2008, these sales will increase.
The digital format will be great for IMAX. Right now, IMAX films are very expensive to shoot, edit, and print because the film is so expensive making studios hesitant to release an IMAX film. After switching to digital, film costs will almost not exist.

Name recognition, finally turning the business toward the right direction by teaming up with major studios to release these blockbuster movies. Lot's of potential, is the future of the movie going experience.

Want to protest that I cannot have foreign stocks in this list. (Aside from ADR'S). I would put the following in the rest of my list of seven. Micronic Laser (micr.st) . Way down. Great business. Orascom Telecom (trades London as a Global depository reciept: GDR), Mobile telephone company to the middle east. Lots of cash flow to pay for its highly leveraged balance sheet. Bharti
airtel (indian mobile company) Forgot to buy this one when 200 or so rupees, now 466. This is a two year plus beauty. F-secure. Finish anti virus company. Makes the best of its kind as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway again beaten down, should recover.
Disc : long

This stock has lots upside, and the risk is minimal, in just few months i wouldn't be surprise to see it gain 20-30%. 3-D screen theatre will gain more audience.
Recs
Recent problems have brought the company down but, despite any downturn in the overall economy, people will still flock to the movies. Imax is bringing digital and 3D to the theatre with a string of blockbusters added to the mix. Great prospects
Recs
Half price investments are nice.

Dropped in panic over the summer but the drop was not proportional to the bad news. Phenomenally underperformed predictions but this year IMAX is doing well thanks to Happy Feet, 300, and Night at the Museum. Additionally, they keep signing theater deals left and right, including internationally.

Beaten up and too cheap here
Recs
Much better Hi Def competitor
Recs
who wants to stay at home all the time and my home theatre is as good as any other theatre....except an IMAX...plus movie industry is supporting the format
Recs
IMAX is the future of theater attendance. IMAX will provide a movie experience that cannot be duplicated at home. Educational and Graphic Novel movies are markets IMAX can monopolize. IMAX's partnership with Regal will give audiences an enhanced movie experience vs regular theater presentation. The China and hopefully India
expansion will be very successful. People with money in these countries will expect and will build better entertainment avenues.
