Great company, great product. The only looming issue is how they will be effected by healthcare reform. And it is not nessessarily negative given the potential efficiancies produced by their product in the medical marketplace.

Using the daVinci robot to do cardiac bypass is amazing and in its infancy. The chest is not "cracked open" (the sternum split with an electric saw), the heart is not stopped and the patient is not put on the heart/lung bypass machine which has it's own set of problems. If about 75% of all prostectomes done in this county are done by the dVP procedure now after a few short years of use we can imagine what will happen to "open heart surgery" in another 5 to 10 years. One cardiac surgeon is reported to have said that we will look back 10 years from now and wonder how we could have been so barbaric with our heart patients. One only has to talk to patients that have had open heart surgery and compare them to patients that have had a daVinci bypass procedure to understand what patients will be insisting on in the future (just like dVP).

Even a small Swiss regional hospital recently bought a DaVinci system. The head of the hospital said, there is much economic sense for them to buy the system. They expect to be more efficient and the system allows them to discharge the patients in a shorter amount of time. There is a lot of potential out there and I believe ISRG has by far not reached market saturation. And: every system installed creates a lot of after-sales potential for the service division.

Intuitive Surgical has a great market niche, and stellar revenue growth. The stock has been beaten up, but is coming back very strong. Of course, I wish I was in the stock at half this price...

ISRG is a well run company with a huge market share in its respective industry. ISRG's Da Vinci System is an absolute one of a kind product that further distinguishes ISRG from other healthcare companies. This company also produces razor blades that accounted for roughly 33% of ISRG's income in the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see this stock make drastic gains in the near future. Also, it will be very interesting to see how this stock is affected by the Obama administration as it begins to make important decisions with healthcare.
