There will always be peaks/valleys with energy due to the world economy. With that being said it will be a big winner in that we humans continue to need more to support our standard of living. The emerging markets will continue to apply economic pressure with their demands.
Recs
this is play on future energy prices. though the fear of recession in
US and Europe and the uncertainity about the Eurpean soverign debt is dampening future expectations of growth and energy demand it is inevitable that like many other crisis in the past thiese too will pass and the energy sector is set to bounce back. It is unlikely to fall much further as the demand for energy in the emerging markets is increasing and should help to kepp the prices for energy at current levels. You are being awarded for waiting with a decent yield.

Oil majors have beaten the market over the last 50 years and I expect them to continue. Even after a fairly big rally, they are still reasonably priced. My favorite majors include: CNQ, CEO, ECA, HUSKF.PK, COP, SU, MUR, XOM, PBR, RDS, CVX, Santos, E, SNP, STO, REP, and SSL.

Sustainable energy aint here yet folks.

The price of energy is going only one direction from here and with it will go the nature and the profits of those involved. Bullish.

IXC is an ETF by IShares. IXC tracks S&P's global engery index. This ETF is made up of the top oil companies in the world. In the immediate future oil is going to remain a very important part of the world and especially the American economy. Specifically this ETC has oil production companies, exploration companies, oil equipment and services companies. This ETF is good for several reasons. The first is personal to me. It is an ETF with a small amount to invest proper diversification is impossible with out a mutual fund or ETF. Second, this ETF is global. I like global for now and into the foreseeable future because we deal with the world. Other countries sell us their goods and services and vise versa. This also, helps out in the diversification of a balanced portfolio. The third reason I like this ETF is because it deals with energy (oil) and the world needs a lot of energy to function. Although we are making progress to get away from oil and move to other engery resouces this transformation is going to take a number of years. And even when that happens energy companies are likely to be part of that change whether they like it or not.

You heard OPEC, do you not think they are talking the "Middle East" talk ... slighting US while it's down. I do not like it, but Oil is heading to USD 200 ... whether I like it or not.

As a 20 year old Energy Engineer, I am very familiar with the energy situation. We are at the beginning of a global energy crisis. Expect a revolution in energy sources and how we think about energy within the next ten years. With the right management, this ETF is going to explode (I just wish I would have started trading earlier in my life).
