Kaman has a stable of mainstay aerospace products sourced in numerous DOD aircraft programs of record. In addition, their K-MAX lift helicopter fills a niche nobody else can fill with present products. R&D costs from any competitor pose a reasonably barrier to entry, and the product itself is superior to anything else. -An optionally manned aerial truck capable of resupplying far-flung outposts under difficult conditions. Who could need that?

The southwest division will start losing money and recent extremely poor management decisions from the mid management of that division will keep it that way for some time. The likelyhood of some branches closing and others downsizing is inevitable and the chances of Kaman retaining third place status in the industrial distribution field is unlikely unless they are consumed by another company that 'weeds out' the rampant incompetence. Kaman is an excellent example of the 'Peter Principle' in action.
