The Dillons stores in our town are generally well-run, efficient and well-stocked. Ditto the Kwik Shop convenience stores. Management seems to have created a culture that can compete with Wal-Mart and Aldi.

People may stop purchasing gold, but they won't stop eating. Kroger offerings rival those of Walmart groceries and whole foods organics. In my neighorhood store the clientele are loyal and satisfied. If that's a mirocosm Kroger is solid for years.

Dividends500 tracks the 200 strongest dividends in the S&P 500. To qualify as a strong dividend, the company must meet two simple requirements:

- A payout ratio below 50%
- An increasing dividend from the prior year

Because there are more than 200 dividend paying companies in the S&P 500 that meet these requirements, the qualifying companies with the largest dividend yields were chosen.

Dividends500 intends to test this FactSet article, which highlights these strong dividend paying companies and their outperformance versus the S&P 500 as a whole (Page 12).

Kroger has the momentum and vision to out preform most of the other large retailers for the next few years. Beyond that their old fashion business model may start impact them negatively. Cost cutting and consolidation with additional under producing rivals can only carry them so far. Eventually they must improve their productivity to compete with Costco and other cutting edge retailers to insure their long term future.

Kroger is buying out many Harris Teeter and Piggly Wiggly stores. I now have no choice but to shop at Kroger. Their top line sales should go up and they should find new efficiencies. Their market share is increasing. Taking a position here seems safe and I expect it'll do better than the overall market.

Kroger is on a mission to become the most tech savvy and customer service oriented grocer and retailer around. They are constantly looking for ways to use information technology to make shopping easier, faster and more economical. They are moving steadily into higher profit lines--offering a wide range of organic food, selling gas and even offering EV charging stations. Their recent Harris Tweeter acquisition gives them entry into Florida and the rich markets of the southeast. Their leadership team is excellent and has a clear future vision and I think their stock will continue its upward movement for quite some time.

Kroger needs more features on their Store Brands with more emphasis on HOT ITEMS like "coffee". Their store brand coffee is excellent and great buy. Their monthly coupons sent to me got me coming back

Kroger has been ahead of the curve for the last several years compared to the other traditional grocers and is well positioned for the future.

I love shopping at Kroger, but this company is not made to stomp the market. The company is excellent to its stakeholders and provides its shareholders with tons of cash. But it exists to move groceries in a very competitive world, which doesn't leave a ton of room for profit.

I have worked for Kroger for almost 5 years now. In the grocery industry, the turnover rate is high. So in that time I have seen a lot of people come and go, many of whom have worked for one of Kroger's competitors. Naturally, their opinions don't represent every storefront in the industry, but from what I have gathered from them and my own experiences, Kroger treats its employees better HEB, Safeway, and Walmart, who are its biggest competitors. So while many employees are there for their first job then leave for collage, those who stay, love the company that they work for. I don't believe that there is a single employee at my store that dislikes the company. And the more the employees like their company and feel that they matter, and are not just meat robots that can be used up then replaced, the harder they will work and the more they will go above and beyond to help the company and to keep the customers happy. I have seen this time and time again at my store. Service that is considered common-place at Kroger, you would never find at a Wal-Mart in a million years. Also, the Executives appear to understand that the best way to compete in such a competitive industry is to build a solid foundation out of employee and customer relations that will allow them to outlast the competition.
