K-Tron was a Motlley Fool Hidden Gems selection a month or so ago. I've archived my copy, but flagged them as worth of consideration, (something I do less than 10% of the time on HG recommendations). K-Tron certainly fits the definition of "boring" and would appear to be in an area highly impacted by an ecoomic slowdown. It's production of material handling equipment did suffer from the economic slowdown, but not as much as one might have imagined. K-Tron has built a diversified product in a global footprint, that helps reduce manpower and improves logistics for a variety of companies. It's larger, multi-millioin dollar equipment, labeled as "size reduction" products is used to smash very large things into very small things for transporation, such as coal, crushers, pulpers, etc. Founded in 1964, it has been growing steadily. K-Tron, (as also pointed out by HG) has only about 2.5 Million shares outstanding with only 5-8 thousand trading hands on a give day, so is an excellent example of LIMIT ORDERS! K-Tron has had an exceptional 5 year climb/growth until the recession took it down with everything else. It peaked around $155 per share and just crossed back above $100. Sporting a P/B of just over 2, it's not "cheap", but it continues to show 10% profit and 15% operating margins even in today's world. Cash is on the increase and debt down about 10% yoy. I think K-Tron has the potential to continue producing market crushing returns and stability of this equity in good and moderately bad times seems worth a look.

No analyst coverage - won't always be that way. 5-year annual growth rate of 35.2% - market cap under $300 mil - return on equity greater than 15%.

I set a screen with the following: Greater than 15% 13 week price change, $10 cash per share or more, greater than 15% institutional ownership, and EPS of $5 or more. The idea was to look for companies that are in acquisition mode (or targets thereof).
Recs
Appealing valuations, little debt, rockin' investment returns and good management.

New anticitrade pick with a very interesting niche. Profitable comany with a 9 ish p/e, lucky #13 from 2008 Forbes America's 200 Best Small Companies, and 53rd in the 2008 Fortune 100 Fastest Growing Companies.
Looking for slowing demand to stableize, and hedging for a weakening dollar to push this company's earnings up much faster than the S&P. Either way, KTII looks like a good bet to outperform for the next several years.

The income statement shows consistant growth for the last 3 years. The longterm loans aproximately equal the residual value of the plants and equipment. Also, the cash and equivalents are equal to the accounts receivable. The last statement shows that the receivables are current and not outstanding waiting for collection.

All the fundamentals are in place for this company to continue its 'global' sales. The sell off of late is unwarranted and oversold

A rare small-cap with global presence and great management. K-Tron serves niche markets in the food, drug, and energy sectors (can you say recession-proof?). Close to 40% of the company's revenue is generated overseas. Management is top-notch and has a knack for making acquisitions that quickly become accretive to earnings.
In 2007, KTII grew revenues and earnings by 36% and 63% respectively. Given the company's management, size, and the markets it serves, there's no reason to believe that K-Tron can't continue its strong growth trend over the next few years.
