Definitely the time to jump in on this one. With terrible press from Solyndra's ultimate demise, the whole solar sector was unfairly blamed and KWT and TAN took big hits. Jump on this one and ride it back up. Totally oversold!

The future, and this ETF has a larger exposure to China based companies than some of it's peers.

BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- The past month has shined the best possible light on the Market Vectors Solar Energy Fund, but this exchange-traded fund's stormy results over three- and 12 months eclipse those sunny recent results.
This is just the kind of action that makes a security like the Solar Energy ETF appealing, but it's also what makes this specialty fund the Stupid Investment of the Week.
Market Vectors Solar Energy (KWT) is a play on the solar-energy business, an industry that has attracted a lot of attention from investors because the issues spurring alternative-energy development are obvious and in-your-face. It is easy to find an investment thesis to justify a purchase here (theories that could just as easily apply to Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy -- an-even larger ETF in the same space, but without the performance extremes over 30 days and three months).

KWT seeks to replicate as closely as possible, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Ardour Solar Energy IndexSM, SOLRX, the pure-play leader in tracking the global solar industry. The Index provides exposure to publicly traded companies from around the world that derive at least 66% of their revenues from solar power and related products and services. On a weighted basis, the companies in the Index derive in excess of 90% of their revenues from the solar industry.

This ETF is managed by the same guys as MOO... And I'm pretty happy with that one. For me, solar is a long-term pick to try to cover the upcoming gap in energy that will widen as we begin to phase out our current methods of energy production.
Think about it... Right now, solar is in a good buying position still since it's not quite cost efficient enough to beat our current methods of energy production. Therefore, it's not quite widely used... yet... As oil prices rise from supply/demand and consumer solar prices drop from new technology, the gap in price continues to get smaller. Pretty soon you'll find that for the cost of heating oil for a winter or two, you can get a full solar array on your roof that will provide heat for many winters to come.
Buy and hold.
