Funding and collaborations spell success in their R&D. This is a good foundation to build on for the future. Hopefully there will be more good news to come from this company

Doubled my original investment into LDND today. Believe this is one biotech that will outperform in the coming years.

Ligand has a number of good partnerships with strong pharma companies and they seem to have several good products in the pipeline. Buzz is about that Ligand is a potential target for acquisition but that's just hearsay; nevertheless, I think they could do quite well. Lots of inside ownership. I'll wait until the May 6 conference call and then make a purchasing decision.

Accumulate under $3.
Potential buy-out target.

I've been looking for a bigger pullback in Ligand given weak knees in the past but I'm getting tired of standing on the sidelines as the company continues to progress its pipeline. Mixed news on Fablyn since my last pitch - a Complete Response from the FDA but EMEA approval. I was expecting negative news from the FDA which is part of the reason I kept my green thumb off the stock in recent weeks. They should start booking Promacta royalty revenue within the next quarter or two. Wyeth continues to pursue FDA approval of bazedoxifene, LGD-4665 continues in a phase II trial with Glaxo, and the Pharmacopeia pick-up PS433450 recently had more positive phase II results in hypertension. Despite positive developments the share price remains well below year-ago levels. A strong cash position gives the company time to prove they can book revenues and continue to make deals with large pharma on late stage pipeline candidates.

An interesting biotech model on royalties only. LGND is a lean and successful biotech company. Let the juggernauts make care of pitching the drugs to doctors. Do what LGND is good at, i.e. R&D.
Recs
As patents for drugs begin to expire this year, many Japanese drug companies are looking to smaller U.S. based corporations to get a foothold on new products to offset their anticipated losses from the expiration of the patents. I foresee LGND being considered for acquisition, and the speculation will likely drive it's price up. They also have several upcoming releases which will spark their sales % upwards pending FDA approvals, and their current price is far below it's future potential.

I really screwed up on this one. Bought it quickly and added it to Caps without really doing DD. Got the divi
but lost the war. I did a really amateurish move. Thinking that the stock price would not go down the 2.50 that they were giving out in the divi. As I researched -- seems near term the remaining company might be worth a lot less the the 7 price of today - at least in the near term. Open to anyone that can show me different. I bailed on my stock with a loss and I am getting ready to reverse my opinion here. Waiting for a bouce before I reverse my call to negative.
