In the very near future, the Federal Government will start enforcing the new provisions of the Lacey Act, which oversees the the importation into the United States of exotic or endangered species. While originally enacted by the McKinnley Administration in 1900 to deal with animals and animal by-products, the act has been recently ammended by Congress to include other endangered species, including exotic hardwoods, which have been at the core of LL's business model and success.
These new rules will force LL to source elsewhere, most likely N. America, which will in turn have a very immediate and negative effect on profits that will be very difficult to recover from, especially considering current market conditions.

Where has al the Home Depot traffic gone? A large part of it has been a casualty of the real estate crash. However, another portion has switched to the even lower cost LL in these hard times.
Expect LL to get hit less than the larger chains, and pick up some market share along the way. They should be well positioned when the economy turns around.
