Well managed financial institution

I've been watching this for a while, and this is too good a price point to pass up (87).
They're still having integration issues with the Citi aquisition, but once the dust settles, this will be in the 110-130 range in 6-12 months

A few of my CAPS picks are based on my desire to track how the market overreacts to news. This is one, as are COST, PCLN, and VTIV, the last of which I am seriously considering for my portfolio.

Interested because it dropped

The stock got beat up because Bill Miller is underperforming for the first time in a lifetime and nobody has a clue what is happening to the Citi assets. That stock will take off soon...

Strong management, once they organize a bit more, they will really take off. Need to stop hiring everybody's relatives and friends. Chairperson of the board is a JOHNS HOPKINS alum who needs to get his company to hire more people from JOHNS HOPKINS. Stock should hit 140.00 within a year!
Recs
the recent merger should produce excellent long term results

chip mason will drive cost cutting beyond what market believes; LM will continue to take share from competitors and multiple expansion to mkt average will also provide a slight bump.

In the year leading up to the Citigroup deal, AUM jumped $100 billion (34%) to $400b, with double-digit growth across all three divisions: institutional, wealth management, and mutual funds.
In the year since, AUM (with the CAM acquisition and $13b in inflows ) have swelled to $855b.
Yes, assets have drained away lately, but some loss of business is to be expected during a major integration, and that situation has stabilized and is under control.
With solid track records, a scandal-free history, and Citigroup's vast retail distribution channel throwing money in LM's direction over the next few years, the stock should return to its pre-merger levels in the $120's

I picked this at 83 but now its 98. I love this stock.

Legg paid an incredible discount to typical asset mgr transactions. Once the Legg brokers leave instead of going to citigroup and the bad/small funds are closed, they will be off to the races again and are the cheapest way to play the fee-based asset managers business. Plus, someone will buy the firm within 3 years, probably an int'l company. Don't count of chip at Legg

Citibank acquistion was a master-stroke. Now let's see Chip pull it off - stock is far too cheap at these levels.

EXcellent mangagement. Good valuation.
