I work for this company, and I think we're doing great, although I always get concerned when any stock is over 50% up on the year. Seems that there can't be many big fish contracts out there yet to win for the near term.

Lockheed is a winner in the long run. US cuts in big ticket items, particularly the F-22, will be painful, but I think that pain has been overstated. Lockheed is diversified into other areas of defense spending, such as information systems and logistics services, as well as civilian technologies and business services.

Also, the F-35 looks to continue to be a winner, with potential increases in procurement in the US and a great deal of demand on the global market. The F-35 seems destined to become even more ubiquitous in NATO and other allied air forces than the F-16 is now.

Why is this an underperform, you ask? Mostly technical reasons. Lockheed's stock has bounced too high and too fast off its lows in March, and is going to be feeling some pain off profit-taking and other concerns. You'll be able to buy at a more attractive price later this year, probably in the 70-75 range. After that, I plan on changing this to a green thumb, particularly if I see it start to turn around on big volume. Keeping an eye on options activity might also be worthwhile here.
