Thanks to Obama Care and all the rhetoric about health care, this company like millions of others in the U.S. have taken a que from the government's focus on rising health care costs and "need for change" LM and numerous other big businesses are heeding the call of Obama's close advisor, Rahm Emanuel. They are not going going to let a good crisis go to waste. LMT and other big companies see the golden oportunity to tip the scales to the employees side of health care costs. LM is going to a single health care system, which means doing away with choice, creating or increasing deductibles, increasing weekly premiums, replaceing previous $20 and $30 "Co-payments" with 15 % - 30 % "C0-Insurance payments that begin after the newly created or increased deductibles have been met for each individual and or the new maximum deductibles for their family. This "redistribution" of costs from LM to the employee is going to be huge, considering there are approximately 140,000 employees that are caught in this great new plan devised to keep LM "competitive in the market place". The last time LM made a big change to their employee benefits was when they decided to no longer provide the same health insurance premium sharing plan with retirees and instead transferred 100% of the premium costs to the retiree, which in effect prevented any employee from being able to afford insurance upon eligible retirement age. This forced them to continue working until they were old enough to qualify for Medicaire and Social Security. That drove the stock price up over 50 % over a couple of years worth of gained profits at the expense of the age 55-62 employees who would have been able to retire.

This new health plan is right in line with the government's trial balloon cost of $3000-$4000 per employee as a cost threshold of when an employer can dump the employee insurance altogether and claim the employee is better off with the "public option" being touted as a cost saver. Whenever the government is going to "help" they open the door for others to help themselves at our expense. Thanks for all your help in giving LM and millions of other businesses an opportunity to unload their health care costs onto the employees and ultimately the government, which is us.

As long as the government keeps interfering with our personal lives, jobs and finances, companies like LM will ensure the opportunities to "increase shareholder value" are taken advantage of at the expense of the employees. Can you blame the CEO's and board members that will make millions off of this cost savings opportunity and how this will increase the share price of their stock? Yes it is going to be much higher in the near future, since this "plan" goes into affect on 1 Jan. 2010. Can't you smell the profits already?

Still a top contender in the US contracting, I believe it will continue to rise during the war, and even after it will continue on a rise due to innovations in propulsion etc...for aerospace tech

I cannot see demand for military equipment going away, on the contrary it will continue to increase, which means good consistent business for Lockheed.

Defense spending is cyclical, and after several years of growth on spending on military, naturally there is some pull back. US will continue to fight wars though and would continue to rely on LMT for high-end military technology and services.

Lockheed is probably the best defense contractor out there. I have worked for several and was always pleased with how they treat their employees. I think that alone says volumes about them. That aside, the stock has taken quite a hit, but the solid dividend makes it a good buy. Defense contractors will always be around and Lockheed will lead the way.

Pessimism regarding future defense spending has kept prices low and attractive. No insider selling over the last year.

Lockheed Martin Corporation engages in design development and manufacture of advanced technology, specially defense technologies. Its P/E is less than 10 and this company has no debt. It has fairly decent Return on Equity/Assets. Dividend looks good with a low payout ratio. It has good PEG and P/S. P/B looks bad but it other aspects outweigh it.
