Lots of long term promise here. Early stage innovative medical device maker that should see lots of market growth
Recs
A lot of price movement recently. I guess people are trying to figure out whether the stock is priced correctly. Well, its not. It should be priced a lot higher.
Recs
It has a wonderful product and with all the people in America running and trying to get into shape, they will need their joints replaced soon enough.

Momentum!

I don't know. I'm using CAPS to track this one.

Great disruptive product, strong management in place.

aging boomers will need a lot of knees and hips

Large untapped market.
Clear market leader with very limited competition.
Very small market, just starting to grow. I belive this will have explosive growth over the next 5+ years.
Recs
Early stage of a huge and growing market with proven products and management.

MAKO's products will revolutionize knee replacement surgery going forward. Eventually, hip surgery as well. We are early in the cycle here and there will be some rough patches to get through. I expect they turn the corner towards real profit in the next 1-2 years, 3-5 years down the road - look out! It takes time for new surgical technique and equipment to develop a following and be fully implemented, but word is spreading on MAKO and starting to pick up speed. The biggest risk is that someone builds a better mousetrap so to speak. But that isn't happening yet, and would likely also take many years to be developed and earn a reputation. Disclosure: I own the stock and plan to hold for 3-5 years or longer.

Celt Pick: Great new technology in an nice industry
Recs
Caligiuri Pick. Mako Surgical has the patent for robotic knee replacement surgery. If this robotic surgery (which has already proven to work very well) taps even a small portion of the potential market, investors are poised to benefit greatly. I'll take my chances.
Recs
product placements and number of procedures continue to grow nicely with knee being the primary focus with hip coming sometime this year. The DaVinci has already broke ground in robotic surgery and Makoplasty is coming in on its heals. There are already alot of people out there with arthritic pain and with many more to come as the baby boomers hit 65
Recs
It is clear that MAKO has achieved market acceptance with 67 units in service and substantial growth in procedures in 4Q 2010. I think the recent drop provided a good opportunity to get in on this growth story.
Recs
Hip and knee replacements are more commonplace each day. This is a company with a proprietary system for each procedure, including replacement disposables.
MAKO is positioned to be a breakout leader in this field.
Recs
Revenues will grow as placements increase. Is this a long term acquisition target?

robotic medical is here to stay

Has potential multibagger written all over it. If you wait for profitability and sequential accelerating installation and procedure growth before investing you will reduce your risk, but also your return. Once this company is profitable and experiencing accelerated adoption will be trading at a much higher market cap. However, if delayed profitability and below expected adoption rate then there is definite possibility of investment loss.
My recommendation is to buy 1/3 of your goal investment amount now and either dollar cost average in over next 12-24 months; or by 1/3 now, 2/3 when profit acheived and lower risk.
If you have appetite for risk start a larger position now and go 1/2 now, 1/2 later or 2/3 now, 1/3 later.
Note none of my options include taking a pass. This is a solid company, with a great product, and strong business model in a growth area of medical practice.
