this company was overpriced but its been beaten down enough. A sweep into power of democrats across the nation will open lots of new opportunities for environmentally-friendly companies like this.

Their plastic product, while more expensive than some others, appears to be truly biodegradable. Building a factory with ADM doesn't hurt prospects either. High cost of oil should drive business towards greener and cheaper alternatives.

With all the interest in Green, this is a pure play for the long term. Number of very good patents not to expire any time soon! I expect to see very good long term exceptional growth , but may still be rocky for the near term! The $9 / sub $10 range may be the good entry point!

This is a fermentable process and it uses corn starch as the nutrient basis. when done, the product has a visual appearance the same as the petroleum based plastic pellet that is just as moldable. This product will however degrade in the ground within six months were as the petro type doesn't. This property is very disirable in the new emerging carbon and environmental concerns we hear so much about in the news. It is a win win if the plant that is going to produce it has a successful start up. The risk is, it is a new process, the reward is, a pay off if it can be produced effeciently.

Metabolix stock will soar over the next 5 years. This company has formed a joint venture with Archer-Daniels Midland to produce a biodegradable plastic named Mirel. Recent independents studies have proven it reduces the use of non-renewable energy sources by 95% vs. conventional petroleum based products. It also provides a 200% reduction in the production of greenhouses gases. If this is not enough, with oil heading toward $90/barrel it may be less expensive to produce than conventional petroleum based plastics. Think about the commercial uses for a biodegradable plastic. Just look at all of the plastic currently used in the packaging of commercial products. This product will not be buried in landfills for years to come and will reduce the demand for oil in making conventional plastic. Most people across the planet would be willing to pay more for a product using this plastic for packaging than one with traditional petroleum based plastic. Yet it may cost less to produce. Metabolix is also working on clean fuels for future commercial application. Even without any profit benefit from these other products it is a can't miss stock going forward. The great thing is how negative some major players such as Jim Cramer are on the stock. It will take off before earnings turn positive at the end of 2008. It will be a good buy under $25.00/share and a great buy at $20.00/share although we may not see this price again. I also own Apple up 270%, Cisco up over 1000% (have owned since 1991), Precision Cast Parts up (1400%, bought at $11/share), Burlington Northern (UP 80%), Suncor (Up 200%) and many more great winning stocks. My only loser is Nutrisystems which I bought at $32.70 after the collapse last week. Even with all these great winners, if I had to pick one stock going forward Metabolix is my choice. Take a look, I am betting they will not be able to keep up with demand once they start producing this revolutionary new product next year.

KDMstocks

There are several other companies who are doing bioplastics better and cheaper with resin available now.

Biodegradable plastics do NOT degrade in landfills. They are NOT recyclable. They are NOT the answer. Their palstic can contaminate palstics that can be recycled. Packaging companies are staying far away. But these are the same companies they are trying desperately to woo. The only good use for this material is for plastics that always wind up in the environment, so maybe plant stakes.

It makes much more sense for industry to improve recycling. And as far as a plant source versus oil for feedstock: their are companies now making traditional plastics (like polyethylene) from plant sources. And these plastics CAN be recycled.

I think Metabilix is good at selling one thing: stock!

This company has a patented technology for biodegratable plastics of various molecular structures that will be used for everything from plastic grocery bags to disposable coffee cups to cosmetic packaging. They only have production capable of test products for now i.e. Target Corp. just began selling gift cards with the Telles TM on them. Telles is the patented joint venture between MBLX and ADM. By late 2008 MBLX will be producing millions of pounds of the stuff and be putting money in the bank. This is a long term buy and hold.

This has got to work - they're right where we need them in the business of getting rid of gracery plastic bags and all the rest of the polluting waste. The only issue is how long it will take for this to get really rolling and will the financing hold out.

The Agra and Food co's are changing their business models toward more IP, partnerships - more Pharma like (see Nestle, ADM etc). I’m not sure how to rate this stock as I don't know the details of the deal - does anybody? Given the same price for a product, then Green will be the preference of consumer, and I'm sure ADM did their homework. I'm long Burcon NutraScience, an early ADM collaboration, which alerted me to MBLX at $17.50.
