Something tells me that Buffett knows something about this segment of the financial world with his new foray into bond insurance. He bought Moody's - hmm.

Buffet core holding, 60% from the 52-week high, a great moat - what's not to like? This whole sub-prime 'culprit' business is way overblown. It will die with the bears.

Moody's Corp. Has taken a big hit because of the controversy surrounding the ratings they issued to companies before sub prime issues began to surface and during the melt down. Their slow response in adjusting their ratings to companies added to the uncertainty of what the company was doing and as a result their stock dropper to levels not seen since 2004 when the stock was trading at these levels.
The company is the dominant presences in the industry providing ratings that are a common reference for most investors. The company still has many other sources of revenue such as financial software and publishing’s. I would expect the trading price to start recovering within the next couple of months.

A victim of the credit market condition. A great investor once recommended to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful (that same famous investor owns a stake in MCO, it would be too easy if I told you his name). So is the market fearful or greedy with respect to MCO, this is what helped me decided to invest.

golden opportunity to play this solid boring stock. Certainly the scandal is always bad, but once the soap opera is over, see the stock getting to its valuation again. Long-term there is a lot of value they can add with their databases, agree with Fools here completely

Think the bottom is near should hear a "thud" pretty soon. Besides it's a broken stock and not a broken company, haven't you heard this phrase before?

bond rating company....steady revenue stream...extraordinary value at these levels because of the problems in the credit markets which are being solved in 1Q08....like for long term buy and hold

Determine the credit-worthiness of companies... Since money is becoming an illusion (it's all about credit nowadays) And noone can possibly understand what a companies balance sheet means since (a) companies lie, (b) noone knows what is an asset or liability is anymore with these silly CDS and MBSes. Basically these guys can "determine" whether a company is "good" or "bad" using super secret formula which has worked so well... I'm sure there is no conflict of interest here, everything is above the board, and they don't provide favoritism to partner companies through bribes favoritism or anything else. A real gem. Its nice how they can downgrade a companies credit rating and immediately you see the market respond negatively... 'Course that didnt exactly play out with all these AAA credit rated banks that suddenly needed to be bailed out... but that's ok, they have America's best interest in mind.

Wide moat business with heavy buyback for own shares. Not the cheapest valuation in town, but could reach back to 70$ in the mid-term.

I don't like veiled deceptive things.. What Warren Buffet did shows the integrity, that Moody's offers.. Remember: How do you tell when a politician is lying? When they are talking..
Have a blessed day!

The sentiment from BRK selling $8 million shares may be adversely effecting recent pricing

The credit rating system is broken, the few companies that play this game have perverse incentives to inflate credit ratings, as we all know now.... Sooner or later this has to change and when that happens Moody's and S&P's stock price will most likely fall as they say these "fees/kickbacks" goodbye.

It should climb out of the funk with the rest of the market - higher but albeit not by much than the S&P 500,
