McAfee's real revenue sources aren't necessarily from their end-user security software that you can pick up at any consumer outlet.
The big money comes from their deep-seated integration in the Federal sector with their enterprise management/security software (HBSS.) They are neck deep in the Navy, Army, Marine, Air Force, several significant security firms (Northrop Grumman), and more federal agencies than you can shake a stick at.
The contract with HP/Navy/Marines is worth billions of dollars all on it's own.
Couple this with their upcoming acquisition of Trust Digital in order to stretch out their security software on to mobile phones, and you have a company that an investment can't really go wrong in.
Be weary of listening to those basing their opinions of McAfee on the performance of consumer anti-virus. That is a minimal portion of their business!

This company is about to acquire Trust Digital which has a strong foothold in the mobile digital market. Security on smart phones in going to be a big problem in the near future.

Nothing like inadvertently sabotaging your biggest customers' computers to help out the ol' profit margins,

A well run security software firm with no debt and a focus on enterprise security IT. Near-term IT spending will be down, except security IT spending will likely be less hit as it is considered mission-critical. Has begun to attract institutional investors.

When businesses are trimming the fat, anti-virus programs and systems are more inportant than ever. I don't know too many businesses that cut these programs to save money.

McAfee has put out a online protection application, which is one of the best ever, it also gives some other tech tools which are vary good for computer health. It is going to outperform others, becasue new app, and better techno, and service. Good time to buy. Jamking.

Virii and malware will always be abundant.

-Good string of success with current management team.
-Smart acquisitions in last 12 months to diversify product portfolio.
-Subscription-based revenue already in the bank, so quarterly revenue numbers largely driven by revenue-recognition regulations. This means pressure to deliver new incremental revenue isn't as high.
-Bad economic times bring out bad behavior, which makes security products a worthwhile investment.

Seems to be doing well despite recession. Should benefit from dirt cheap SCUR buyout.

Computer security will continue to be a necessity. Recent products have good ratings, and the partnership with Yahoo! should open new doors.
Recs
Consistently beating earnings estimates and making smart acquisitions that will help their growth prospects (i.e. SafeBoot). Furthermore, their products are starting to get an edge on Symantec (in my opinion).

A great security market that keeps growing and an excellent management team that is focused on execution, a 10-quarter track record of growth and good technology.

Dave DeWalt over from EMC. Earnings are jumping, big deals are growing, and company is innovating (19 new patents). Computer security. Enough said.

We all need and will need computer security. Seems like a no brainer to me.
