Been waiting about a year to see MGM get down to a reasonable price. Time is now, they own MOST of the strip and will continue to rake it in....

MGM is at an attractive price today. This may not be the bottom, but it should have considerable up side. Their over exposure in Las Vegas may hurt them some in the short run, but I look for a surge in gambling in Vegas once the economy picksup some steam in 3-4 months. Buy now while it is near a 52 week low.

It doesn't matter how the economy is doing, the bottom line is that people are escaping the everyday reality of our economic horrors and taking advantage of those cheap flight to Vegas while they can. Vegas is certainly changing and will not be cheap much longer. A current headline here titled the current change as "Manhattanizing Vegas" (LVRJ). MGM is certainly contributing to this change with the explosion of their new $9B innovation, City Centre.

MGM is invested in a 9 billion dollar project which is under construction as we speak in Las Vegas. They are building a property that will have a hotel and casino along with shopping center and residential area. I look for this stock to go up over the next year or so.

With the economy in a tail-spin, peoples disposable income is at an all time low, not the mention travel costs are much higher with increasing oil prices. Las Vegas will see a drop in tourism over the next year as people back away from unnecessary spending.

The Rich and The Poor alll find their way to MGM. Some do so with the hopes of making a drastic change in their lifestyle if they are poor, and the rich do so because they can. MGM is a multi-pupose company, as they make plans to expand into more countries. They are a well-
managed and focused company with an eye on profit.
They will do well in a good and in a struggling economy, as they depict "a change for the best" in the eyes of their patrons. Money will flow as "hope" continues to float the boat of many people in the world who enter the doors
of the MGM properties.

http://stockmarketbeat.com/blog1/2008/03/12/mgm-mgm-mirage-is-building-it-but-will-the-gamblers-come/
At an enterprise value of 3.8 times 2007 revenue and 21 times 2007 income from continuing operations, MGM looks about as fully valued as one can imagine. The acquisition of Harrah’s, which recently closed after a year-long process, valued that company at 2.6 times 2007 revenue, and 17 times 2007 operating income. And that deal was launched at the height of the private equity boom. It seems wishful thinking to expect a similar valuation in today’s environment.

So I am not optimistic that the 1998 thesis will pan out this time. But while I would sell any existing long position and sit on the sidelines (at least until CityCenter opens), I don’t have the guts to short this name. Kirk Kerkorian’s Tracinda Corporation has the resources to continue funding the developments and possibly to take on a larger ownership stake. Bringing on joint venture partners to co-finance the project has also become a key strategy, with deep-pocketed Dubai World being more than capable of taking up any slack. In fact, taking on Dubai World as a joint venture partner on CityCenter resulted in a $1 billion gain on the investments made to date.

It's a casino. There always going to make money. Keep it until 80+ then sell it and buy it back. Its that simple.
