MTN GROUP Ltd. (MTNOY.PK)

CAPS Rating:
*****

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I have lived in Nigeria and used MTN. The service is good but expensive. They had the first mover afvantage in Nigeria and literally rob the public by charging more than a quarter a min which is a lot in Nigeria. So i think this company can make money for us. Mobile phone business in Africa will continue to boom. Landlines are terrible and expensive to get. Every Tom Dick and Harry wants a cell phone, not just for its usefullness but as a fashion statement. Call it the Louis Vuitton of Africa. MTN is dominating the mobile phone market, it is investing in internet technologies too. The only way up is up for MTN. Even the sky does not limit it.

They had the first mover afvantage in Nigeria and literally rob the public by charging more than a quarter a min which is a lot in Nigeria. So i think this company can make money for us. I do not think it will get acquired by China Mobil because it is a huge company on its own and its service is parallel if not better than any US telecom.

Found this stock via CAPS. This is a cell phone company based in South Africa, their phone service dominates an entire continent (mostly South Africa and Nigeria, where the money is). They have 40 million subscribers. Forbes recently put them in a list of top 10 African stocks. http://www.forbes.com/2007/10/19/africa-nigeria-cairo-pf-ii-in_po_1018emergingmarkets_inl_slide_2.html?thisSpeed=20000

Another American Movil? Currently valued at $36 billion, so don't let their pink sheets status fool ya.
