Napster, Inc. (NAPS)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company is a provider of online music for the consumer market.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Napster still lacks any sort of real monetization plan. Their latest venture into mobile phones comes off as a poor man's iphone. As time goes by it's brand recognition becomes less and less significant. In the ever rapidly changing world of the internet there's little point in acquiring a virtually defunct brand and thus little potential for a napster buyout.
I see no upside for napster and wonder if its very existence is in question.

No competitive moat and the problems with downloads of copywrited stuff earlier left a bad taste in many people's mouths. They are dead meat.

It's just speculation but I would say this could be the second comming of Napster. Since the shares are priced for failure and considering an arbitrary 33% chance of sucess we have the following scenarios.

1. Total failure - 100% loss

2. Company survives but never becomes a winner. Minor loss or minor profits for shareholder.

3. Great sucess - a few thousands % win

If you take 3 (or 4) stocks with these characteristics, you lose the capital in one of them, dont profit nor lose on the second, and make 10 times the money on the third... cool, uh ?

One more case of unbalance between risks and reward..I'm in
