The company is benefiting from blockbuster's issues. The recession also aides their subscriber business. Content, however, is moving towards streaming video and the old subscriber base will eventually die.

What baffles me is why cable providers have not set up a monthly fee to make all their new releases available for unlimited streaming. To me the cable providers would have a tremendous cost advantage by not having to maintain any physical inventory, distribution centers, and employees. Netflix killed Blockbuster, and I think once cable companies resolve bandwith issues, their online streaming capabilities will be the primary source for entertainment content. Netflix has made a valiant effort to estbalish online content, but most of it are older tv shows, or low rated/ older movies.
