Northern Oil and Gas (NOG)
Recs
Northern Oil & Gas is headquartered in Wayzata, Minnesota, a town that is not exactly known for being the epicenter of the energy industry. However, Northern Oil & Gas performs just fine for a company with acreage next door in North Dakota. The company has 70,000 net acres and, like so many other operators, targets the Bakken Shale, an oil bearing shale that is becoming very popular in the industry.
Expect a 30 to 40 % return sooner than later.
Start your research on micro caps & very tiny small caps that aren't overly leveraged like NOG with properties in well-known resource basins that are being developed by their larger cap peers.
BTW -take a peak at DBLE - worth the reward - if you can handle the risk.

Summer is commng and for the area that is the best production period. In addition oil prices will go up for the summer, fact, fall time frame several of the stimulis projects will begin. The need for oil will increase or sustain from summer and a real rise will be felt before christmas

I've been long since last year on this Minnesota company with significant acreage in the Bakken, especially western North Dakota. Even with the challenges of horizontal drilling, each well they drilled last year was successful and they report the company to be profitable, even with lower oil prices. If not eventually bought out, I figure they'll offer a dividend as they grow. I fully expect oil prices to increase (thus the stock price too) especially if geopolitical issues continue to accelerate. It helps that the company extracts oil from American soil and the management being as forward-thinking to this point. I will consider adding more on price dips.

With the gas prices being lower this year I have a feeling everyone and their kid sister are planning a vechile summer vacation. Doing so the demand for oil will increase and so will it's price.

Bakken = Domestic OIL. Secured Financing.

Northern Oil and Gas is small operator with extensive acreage in the Bakken play. They have very low production so they have chosen to develop their acreage with JV partners funding the drilling and NOG taking a smaller WI % to minimize risk and dilution.
Production was in the 100bpd range starting 2008 but should exit close to 1000bpd. By using JV partners to drill, NOG has been able to exist with minimal staff. In addition, officers have elected to take stock instead of salaries to minimize cash expenses.
Now that they are cashflow positive, NOG intends to increase their WI in their wells in 2009 and eventually begin drilling/operating their own wells. By using experienced JV partners, they have been able to explore their land and find out the best locations.

I actually own this one and it was doing gangbusters before the economy hit the skids... fact is we'll need oil just as much after the recovery...

Oil is hot here and I get to see it first hand!
OWN IT!

Sitting on prime locations, and with the petroleum thirst in the U.S this will only pay dividends in the long term. As the fed pushes for energy independence, this will only help elevate Northern Oil's growth.

I do own 200 shares ....Bought at $6.12 and will buy more on a dip in price

After seeing a drop in share price for the last few days, NOG is trading between 10% and 11% higher today on news of their second quarter operating results. As you can see from the press release yesterday August 6, they have had some very promising results. Optimistic expectations are that the motley fools were correct in recommending this pick.

Yes Speculative but I think its a good short.

This one is complete speculation at this point, but it is a great story. If you believe that the only long term solution to our energy issue is to produce more of our own oil, you want to own the companies that should benefit from that.
