It is too big to be successful in the coming smart phone war, the war for dominance of cell phones.

Losing market share in Asia, losing market share in Europe, and never had a great amount of mkt share in the US. Oh dear...

This months Fast Company has a good article on Nokia. It highlights how unaware they are that they have already lost the smart phone market. They have a very socialistic strategy, central planning how they are going to leverage this huge installed base of customers (commodity dumb phone customers), into some kind of profit machine. They scoff at apple and rimm who are only catering to the rich and that they are the morally superior company who is going to supply the poor of the world. That's super Nokia, but I like companies that make profits.

N97 is far from being an iPhone killer. Ovi is set to fail in the first few months from launch. Prices for cheap low end phones are pressured by competition from Asian OEMs.

The demand within the US and China, two of the biggest market available, isn't developing a taste for Nokia. They must find a way to penetrate these two markets, but the barrier is high.

Poor marketing, reluctant to accept change, will get its dominant market share eaten alive by its swarm of tiny competitors. Not to mention Blackberry and IPhone. Nokia still believes people buy 'cause it's Nokia and they are synonymous with cell phone. Remember Polaroid?

I've got to give credit to Jim Cramer for this underperform pick. His evaluation of Texas Instruments and their lack of "deman" are going to hurt this stock for the time being.

Too much competition from Asia with better prices and quality.

I'm crossing my fingers that they will finally get a strong foothold in the China market after years of underperformance due to unexciting and ill-conceived cell phones.
