Hit hard by the fall in oil prices per barrel. The companies earnings and balance sheet are strong, though. When Varco makes it out of 2015, it will be set up for success.

Unless you somehow think cheap oil is a permanent thing, this looks like a great spot to jump in.

Initiated a position in NOV today (3/23/15) at $50, a hair below last reported book value per share. NOV now makes up 15% of my real life portfolio.

Oil prices may be low for a while, but NOV dominates their niche. A decade from now NOV's intrinsic value will be significantly higher, and Mr. Market will probably be significantly less pessimistic about NOV's prospects.

Long BRK.B, IBM, NOV, VZ, and LUK.

Even kids know the price of oil will increase in the future 5 years, consumption will increase, Oil will be harder to find in the future, more drilling is required. So NOV will be trading at a high price in the future.

When oil prices go back up,and when over- supply receds, this stock will begin going back up. For now I'll pick it up on the dip.

Even with oil services pulling back with price of oil, continuing operations will still need to have services performed and new parts. Get in now and wait for oil to start moving back up. Dividend makes it also attractive to hold for long term.

Cheap is always good. Not a perfect entry I'm sure but I like it well enough here. Let's look again in a few years.

A great company that has been around over a hundred years, with a p/e well below the 5 year average, and plenty of cash to keep paying their dividend even if this oil prices stay down for years. So next year or two—who knows? But in five years time I believe this price will prove to have been a huge bargain.

Only way is up, and they'll be positioned well to kick back into the rig start-back-ups that will happen once oil prices stop leaking out the bottom.

simple, oil is down considerably, and in my estimation will stay down for all of 2015. Lower prices = lower profits

I'm buying National Oilwell Varco for these three reasons: (1) Based on what happened the last time oil prices crashed in 2009, NOV can handle falling oil prices better than almost everyone in the industry, (2) it is unreasonably cheap (if you think oil prices will trend higher over time), and (3) it has multiple ways to win. It can make smart acquisitions as panic sweeps through the industry, or it can buy back about 12% of its stock at a 10% FCF Yield (when the risk free rate is only 1.7%), or I believe NOV itself could be acquired by a company like GE or Berkshire Hathaway.
