This met a high level screen to indicate a buy and strong outperform against its peers (other tickers in its industry). My 1st version of this spreadsheet devles deep into the company's balnace sheet and recent income statements, combined with other relevant price data for the company including insider/institutional holdings, short interest, debt levels, etc.
Testing capabilities of this 1st version of my automated, valuation spreadhseet matched with my personal criteria and see how it holds up.

tech sector decently valued with high amounts of cash

Their involvement in "cloud computing"- I think they may have something here that will put them back in the game.

Ordinary research makes it look like NOVL is shooting up.

Looks like Oracle has a big threat from Novell's Linus. Not only that but Novell has teamed up with McAfee. And if you're reading this, more than likely you have McAfee protection. Domino effect.

Poor product and bad customer service will drag this company down.

History and experience will help this oldy-but-goody tech make the adaptations necessary to make good on the real open source market.

I love this company, or rather, I love Suse Linux, but I just can't see buying the stock right now. P/E just not doin' it for me.

just rated "buy"

a potential take over target by IBM? Red Hat.....

I don't have a whole lot to go on, I just hate Novell. Actually, look at that P/E...312? Netware is dead, SuSE Linux is horrible when compared to Red Hat, and their support is even worse. Linux is only about 10% of their steadily decreasing revenues, which are mostly made up of their directory products. Eventually somebody is going to realize that the world runs Active Directory and isn't going to need to synch eDirectory, openldap, nis, etc, etc.
Recs
The company is not having clear strategy for marketing the product. There is lack of people who can support the company's product. When compared with peer competitor, RedHat the market acceptance of the SuSE Linux is very low.

THIS STOCK HAS A RATING OF 6 I BELIEVE IT'S STILL A GOOD STOCK . DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS STOCK

Nothing much has changed in how this company is doing since I initially invested years ago. I hope for improvement but I'm not holding my breath. My main hope for Novell is SuSE and SCOX related: I expect SuSE to do well and SCOX to crater more than it already has.

Linux is to unknown to the average person and it just can't compete with the monopoly that microsoft represents.

Novell bought Platspin - the best move I've seen them make in a long time. This puts them in position to ride VMware's coat tails out of the gutter, plus gives them the ability to support data center migrations, disaster recovery.
Since Novell faithful are XenSource happy, the Platespin buy helps elevate them out of the "OS wars" by providing a product that is cross platform in the server virtualization space.
However, I think in the long run NOVL will eventually fail. I've seen no innovation from them in years (no, adopting Linux as a platform is not innovation) and they have a niche following. Frankly, I'm surprised they're still around.

Its only a matter of time before this company gos under. It needs an in demand product to save it.
