+ Watch NTSP
on My Watchlist
there are 70MM unbanked individuals in US, and banks cannot serve millions more that are currently banked profitably, new models for basic transactional accounts are definitely going to benefit from this trend
I am always amazed at the number of people that do not have checking accounts and therefore do not have a traditional debit card especially in the NYC area. NTSP fills this need and despite legal challenges to their business I am a buyer!!
Longer term hold. Industry has panties in a twist over Durbin Amendment and how that will effect the debit market. Give Visa time to lay the groundwork and figure out how they can protect their investment. Expect Netspend and Green Dot to both take a beating during this process but I believe profit and future will reign true. May be a longer term hold than many of us hoped for. IPO price was $11, expect senior leadership to get this stock back up to $12-$15 before you sell.
In the world of pre-paid debt cards Netspend holds the higher end of the market with the partnering up with ACE Cash Checking, their cards come with an the option of over draft protection at a rate of $15 dollars past $10 and will not occur interest. This company gives people a good option in banking, their fee's are low which drives in customers, the company is a new IPO and has not been involved in the banking scams, it has over 114,000 re-load locations, and their fees are variable to their current card base of 2.1 mil.
