The king of speech. Maturing technology beginning to find real applications. Nuance has established scale through acquisitions. Very light asset business model. Still speculative as earnings and cash flow will only turn positive later this year. Poised to become cash machine as applications mature and partners products hit the mainstream.

It will outperform simply because it works and the market is ready for it!!
I work for a large voice and data professional services firm in Maron Structure Technoloogies out of the Chicago areat hat markets different services and applications to Enterprise organizations. I have never seen a product that has opened doors like this one.
For example take an organization who currently has 50,000 employees. Traditionally when one employee wants to reach another they have to spend time looking up extensions and other numbers in their printed, online and active directories to reach that person if at all. With their Speech activated auto attendant solution now all one has to do is hit one button on the phone and say the name of the person they would like to speak with. The call is then routed to that person's designated communication device for that day.
Because each individual can have up to 8 numbers associated to them they can be reached just about anywhere anytime. Also because it utilizes speech recognition by analyzing a users voice pattern for a user to redirect their calls or make a change it is much more secure than simply using a password or some other form of data which can easily be stolen by any hacker.
The pricepoint is exceptional, the ROI is almost immediate,it can be deployed across a large enterprise in one day and requires no training for the end users cause if you can push a button and speak an name you are trained. Name another technology you can say that about.
The accurracy rate amongst large organizations is approx 96% and even their largest user of this product with just over 400,000 employees has documented an accuracy rate of over 92%
This technology has matured, is easy to use and is making a huge impact in the marketplace. Keep in mind this is just one of several speech activated solutions they offer. There is no doubt that Nuance and the speech activated solutions they deliver are making a huge impact on a commercial, corporate and industrial marketplace that is now culturally ready to embrace this technology!!!
Don't believe me no problem.. as Nuance likes to say

Sure, it looks like they might show a profit next year. I'm a little concerned about a) their lack of profitability, and b) why there's now about 50% more shares outstanding this year than last. If they don't show a profit, it drops. If they keep diluting, it should drop. These guys have been around for awhile now, I'm betting that in 2007 we find out that the good news is really coming in 2008.

This company has become what it is by acquiring its many parts. When they can fully integrate all these parts, this company will become a monster in its sector.

Am I the only one here who types faster than I talk? :) Maybe it's a late Generation X thing...
Those who think voice recognition will benefit from the text based communication fail to understand the generations that use texting and the like so heavily. These generations communicate in a different way, and we PREFER it that way. I don't know anyone who would dictate an email, text message, or IM. If we wanted to talk, we would make a phone call, everyone has a cell phone. Instead, we choose these other methods. I don't even think I know anyone who would want to dictate a document, let alone someone that would want to control their computer this way.
Point being, the trend is away from speech in general, in my opinion.
Not to mention, this is all assuming the recognition technology works flawlessly, which I'm sorry to say, is not there yet. People get more frustrated at this technology than anything else..
For the record, I've toyed with this software (Dragon Dictate) off and on since I saw it at Comdex 1995 or 1996 (not sure which), but it's always been a gimmick, nothing more. Real world applications aren't as prevalent as people are expecting. This technology has its niche uses, but I just don't believe this will be widely adopted or explosive. Most people play with it for a minute, say "neat" and go on their merry way. That's my experience, at least...
Sorry to not be on the bandwagon here, but this needs some naysaying.

As an industry insider: following the merger, NUAN is now the only real player in the speech recognition market. Tremendous benefits for the enterprise, tremendous benefits for users. Plays in numerous vertical markets (enterprise, embedded, auto, and home); all no where close to their revenue potential in my opinion.

Look at the webpage, they're peddling junk. Technology is easily copied

Nuance, maker of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, among other things, is the #1 recognized leader in voice recognition computer software. And as is widely recognized for the future, computer voice activation will soon be commonplace. Yes, Microsoft's next version of Windows is reputed to have voice recognition too, but I seriously doubt it will measure up to the years already invested in Dragon. Almost forgot, there is a medical & legal version of Dragon as well, and doctors & lawyers are some of its bigger fans. Fwiw, as a full quadriplegic with no use of the limbs, I'm speaking from experience when I say the software is super! Anything & everything the able-bodied can do with a keyboard & mouse I can do by voice; it's the future of computers, and it's going to happen in the near future. Strong buy!

This stock is about to go through the roof. They have an outstanding management team and a product that has numerous real world applications. Remember when Star Trek style communicators were a thing of the future? Now we all cary around cell phones that would wow Captain Kirk. Soon we'll be talking to our computers (and cars, and PDA's, and vending machines) in much the same way, largely thanks to Nuance's speech systems. Already in use in the Medical field, this technology will soon be as commonplace and as relied upon as any other technology that we can't live without. Nuance does have some serious competition from Microsoft and other tech firms, but they are extremely saavy and aware of the need to remain committed to R&D and marketing to remain competitive.

This company's been around a while, and still can't seem to turn a profit.
I'm wondering if a nearly $2B market cap might be just a wee bit rich.

Nuance Communications provides speech and imaging products worldwide, in the areas of human voice interaction with information systems and devices; and imaging conversion from paper to electronics. The voice technology should lead to far more than the singing greeting cards we've been hearing about lately. In fact, the company announced in August, a converter that will allow users to change PDF files into speech -- a technology that is in direct competition Adobe and Microsoft.
A must-mention is Don Hunt, Nuance's new Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales, whose 25-year background includes sales operations and executive leadership. He believes, "...Nuance is poised to be a driving force in a new wave of information technologies."
The balance sheet worries me a bit, with Total Current Debt at 355.04M, and Total Current Assets 242.49M.
But with a pricetag of $13.22 in May, and the current at $10, I think this stock represents a decent deal. I'm hoping that ongoing product development, consumer demand for products, and some sincere effort at debt control, will lead to solid growth in this company's future.

NUAN dominates the IVR market in the US and abroad. They have the bulk of the market in dictation and voice recognition transcription, thanks to a number of strategic and daring acquisitions. Their numbers have been difficult to analyze because of the acquisitions, hence the recent volatility. But once they settle into their businesses, and the market begins to recognize the value, the stock will shoot up.

Call any customer service, and you are usually started out with a voice recognition software program. This is definitely the future, even in PCs where our input is purely manual at this point and less efficient. Many people from companies such as Intel came to my Computer Science classes at the university telling us that voice recognition is the future of computing.

There is No Looking Back for Nuance Communications, a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions for businesses and consumers around the world. It offers various speech technologies that enable voice-activated services over telephone; transform speech into written word; and permit the control of devices and applications by speaking. The company has the world's largest portfolio of speech and imaging products backed by the expertise of their professional services organization and a partner network that can create solutions for businesses and organizations around the globe.
The company has recently reported more than 100% increase in the revenues on a non-GAAP basis for the fourth-quarter 2006. The company is heading towards the top by adopting a growth strategy of strategic acquisitions. This approach of the company can be backed by its acquisitions of Rhetorical, ART, Phonetic, MedRemote and Former Nuance in 2005. Additionally in February 2006 the company acquired Dictaphone, a leading provider of dictation and speech recognition solutions for the healthcare industry. This move is also expected to enhance Nuance's top-line in the coming years. Moreover the company has acquired MobileVoiceControl, a provider of speech-enabled mobile search and messaging services in January 2007, which will help them to accelerate the deployment of speech solutions in the wireless market.
The market for the add-on services on the mobile device is growing at a very high pace and it is expected that the speech technology is on the verge of seeing more widespread adoption in the mobile market, which directly benefits Nuance. Moreover the company is adding new applications to market including hands free driver mode, MP3 functionality, and mobile dictation, which is expected to further extend its presence in handsets market. With all the right moves and all the right technology and services there seems to be no looking back for the company and its stock.

Nuan is a market leader in speech and imaging solutions, an area with tremendous potential. With virtually no competition as of now the company should do well in the short as well as long term. Could also be a likely candidate to acquire by a large software vendor!
