This specific industry is undergoing a stiff correction in this environment. I'm not a fan in general of the model that borrows and issues shares and pays out a dividend well over revenue.

IN this case New York Mortgage Trust is not as egregious as others. It appears to me that though the revenue is nit and may be for some time, that they will hold the divvy for awhile and can cover it out of cash. If so, the dollar cost averaging of this one may get me out of further trouble in a few quarters and I'll have to see how the wind is blowing.

Target. Will have to see if my divvy theory works...

The company has a strong portfolio and will be able to sustain it's hefty dividend.

A very solid, well-managed mortgage investment fund. The stock price and the dividend remained steady throughout the volatile year of 2013.

Hefty dividends will supplement growth, and at this price, it's less than 10% of value in 2006.

REITs have lagged the market lately so I'm allocating some capital toward this beaten-down, high-income security.

I'm in this one for the 17% dividend yield. I expect at some point folks will notice this yield and drive the price up.

Shaky real estate signals will drive REIT's down in the short term. Great way to add dividend income to your portfolio as the prices fall.

When the US economy is moving in a stronger direction, real estate can't be far behind. New York is the grand daddy of US real estate. Watch it, if it goes great. If its flat, 15% dividend. You can't complain about that!!

Company does well off of current rate spread, and as rates increase NYMT's portfolio has enough LIBOR relative loans to see its yield increase.
