During January 2007, Office Depot extended its sponsorship of NASCAR. Office Depot's partnership with NASCAR serves as the foundation for the company's fully integrated marketing initiatives and programs. These include national and local market promotions; retail store events; at track activities such as customer hospitality programs and special events with Carl Edwards; public relations; and local philanthropic activities. Office Depot been able to successfully translate NASCAR sponsorship into sales driving activities, which would drive bottom-line results for its businesses, by differentiating Office Depot brand and connecting with millions of potential customers and business owners who are fans of the sport.

Office Depot posted slight improvement in first quarter results, even though the environment was challenging. Total sales for the quarter improved by 7% to $ 4.1 billion compared to the first quarter of 2006. Net earnings for the quarter were $156 million compared to $130 million in the same quarter of the prior year. Diluted earnings per share were $0.56 in the first quarter of 2007 versus $0.43 in the same period a year ago.

In September 2006, it entered into an agreement to acquire AsiaEC, one of the largest dealers of office products and services in China. AsiaEC is a leader in delivering a wide range of products and services to businesses, including to multinational corporations operating in China. This acquisition gives Office Depot a significant presence in the fast growing Chinese market, and allows to further leverage its operations in Japan and South Korea to enhance its competitive position within this increasingly important region. Considering the above factors, the stock of Office Depot provides potential upturns for the investors.

I have read that Office Depot is working diligently to make all of their stores identical, similar to Walgreen's. The initial result has been good, and I don't see why it should stop.
