+ Watch OME
on My Watchlist
The Company is a processor, marketer and distributor of fish meal and fish oil products in the United States.
Health foods aren't going away, and divisions of OME such as WSP are rapidly growing. Their product offerings are expanding and their P/E ratio of around 8 suggests they're a bargain compared to many of the 15-20+ offerings out there.
High momentum, Low P/E and E/E, Massive profit margins which could disappear over the long run, but that risk is mitigated by the other factors.
AAII SSP PF score
Leader in aquaculture
The demand for fatty acid supplements as the baby boomers get more interested in the things that are good for them.
short term fall, will rebound around 8-9$
This is a gamble, but one I'm going to stick with. A lot depends on what happens with the gulf disaster..
The high growth in fish meal and fish oil products may be over. But even if OME experiences slow growth or no growth, they are still profitable and cheap enough to be a decent investment.I always buy the Tropicana OJ with Omega 3 fish oil. Not because I think it's good for me, I just like the perversity of the idea. I think we're in an alternate universe and this is what happened in the main one:CEO: "Hey, what would make this delicious orange juice even better?"Underling: "FISH OIL!"CEO: "You're fired."
Fish oil kick today.
a couple of months ago i started taking fish oil pills as a dietary supplement to see if it would help my aching knee. i have been in pain for many years and often walked with a limp. it worked! after only a few days my knee is almost completely painless and the rest of my aging joints feel better. i did some research to find a company in the fish oil business. omega protein corp. is my choice for my investment dollar. i think my fellow baby boomers could grow this market for many years.
Farmers have switched soy bean fields to corn this year. Soy beans are up. Fish meal competes with Soy bean meal. Expect fish meal prices to rise.

Riding the health conscious wave; in the mid-term will convert from an extractor (fishery play) to a marketer.
Omega Protein Inc is the largest producer, marketer and distributor of protein rich meal and oil, derived from aquatic sources. Its protein rich meal products are derived from a fish called Menhaden, and are commonly used as a protein ingredient in animal feed for swine, cattle, aquaculture and household pets. However, fish oil, extracted from same fish species, is utilized for industrial applications, additives to human food products and dietary supplements, in addition to animal and aquaculture feeds. The Hurricanes Katrina and Rita severely damaged the production capacity of its fish processing facilities at Moss Point, Cameron, Louisiana and Abbeville during August and September 2005. It also severely damaged its shipyard at Moss Point. However all the facilities that were severely affected by the natural calamities have become fully operational. This would lead to a higher production tonnage in the coming years. The company is in the process of building a new technical center at Houston, Texas to further develop its refined oil, OmegaPure food grade Omega-3 product line. This investment in technical resources will expand its capacity to provide technical product development support for its customers who want to incorporate OmegaPure, Omega-3 essential fatty acids into their food products. The company’s annual aggregate processing capacity is approximately 850,000 tons as of September 30, 2006.The weather for fishing season in gulf was favorable this year compared to the devastating effects last year on account of hurricane. The Atlantic fishing season dependent on weather could still have some time left for the fishing season to complete. This could augur well for catch from Atlantic Ocean. Considering the above factors, long term investors can take exposure to the stock Omega Protein.
