Open TV Corp provides software and applications for synergistic and enhanced television and supplies the main software and technologies that help cable, satellite and digital terrestrial operators to give audiences interactive and enhanced television experiences. The company's software has been integrated in over 73 million digital set-top-boxes in 96 countries.
In January 2007, Kudelski Group, a digital security firm bought controlling interest in OpenTV. Kudelski has inserted new management and board members after the acquisition and it remains to be seen how this change in top management will affect Open TV’s fortunes. It could turn out to be a powerful relationship as Kudelski has a lot of experience in the digital television sector.
Financially, revenues have improved in the first nine months of 2006 while net loss has declined. Europe is still a strong hold for the company with the BSkyB acquisition contributing 21% of revenues. Asian revenues have grown 59% excluding one-time gains. OpenTV provides software and services to Essel Group that is India’s largest cable operator. As India is a growing market with subscribers expected to reach 70 million by 2010, this contract will augur well for OpenTV.
At the moment, the satellite broadcasting market is witnessing changes with companies like Comcast offering voice, video and data traffic together through the same connections. OpenTV is already working along with Silicon and Software Systems Ltd on developing and deploying new technologies. The revenues of Bettingcorp and PlayJam are expected to decline in 2007, which could be a cause for slight worry. But with a new management in place and the fourth quarter revenues expected to grow 15 to 20%, 2007, it could be a better year for OpenTV.

Interactive STB middleware is going to drive growth over the next few years. OPTV is one of the best players in that space, trouble is they face a tough competitor in a little company known as Microsoft. Ideally I see OPTV as an acquisition target for CSCO in their push to enter more of the consumer market.

Leader in STB middleware for Interactive TV. Proven with European Cable / Sat providers. Waiting for a US announcement
