The company has no revenue, only $19 MM in equity (albiet all of it is tangible equity and all in cash), only about 50 employees and is working on "discovering" something:

The company?s lead combination product candidates targeted for obesity are Contrave, which is in Phase III clinical trials, and Empatic, which is in the later stages of Phase II clinical development. Wow, this sounds like a short candidate if I ever heard of one. However, there are a slew of insider stock purchases, and someone trying to accumulate a lot of shares. So I am putting my thumbs up for this one, on the possibility that they really have discovered something (mind you, not with in my real life portfolio yet, but here in CAPS so I can say "I knew this one was going to make it big"... even though I only thought it might make it big).

Orexigen Is a biopharmaceutical company with product candidates that target obesity. Their lead product Is called Contrave,and they just completed the stage three trial for the drug.The results from these trials confirm that their COR program of more than 4500 patients exceed the FDA categorical efficacy benchmark for clinically significant weight loss. The company plans to file an NDA (New drug application) In the first half of 2010. Since August 11th,2009 (Todays the 18th) there have been over 4 million shares purchased by Insiders either directly or Indirectly between 7.50 and 8.00$ per share... TS

Surprised that OREX rose back over the threshold. This stock will likely bounce up and down for the next few months as management hypes their marginal obesity candidate.

I'm suspicious of strong upward moves in Orexigen given the weakness of the completed phase III trial of Contrave. The company has an opportunity to redeem itself in Q3 with additional phase III Contrave data as well as phase II data for Empatic, but I don't see current highs being sustained through that point.

weight loss drug could be a blockbuster

OREX management panicked and accepted any horrible deal to get their hands on some cash. But there are a whole host of medical, technology, finance, manufacturing and retail names out there that are starving for capital. And you better believe that once the next window opens in the coming weeks, most likely underwriters will be falling all over themselves to bring these guys to market and collect their fat fees.

This is fall down to ZERO!
