Recommendations:
I've been looking at an entry point for this stock since the recommendation in the March 3rd,2008 edition Canadian Business Magazine @ $42.64. As well my other subscription to The Investment Reporter made the same recommendation that same week. I don't like picking up stocks right when they are recommended as there is a slight pop, but then this week Jim Cramer at TheStreet.com downgraded the stock... and for some reason I knew it was a buying opportunity.
Even the current Top Bear in this section has a valuation of $34 for a fair value of this company. (This was when the stock was trading in the $52). I see this as a good indication of being close to the bottom.
Technicals:
Earlier in the month this stock touched the low end of the Bollinger band and the RSI in the last day of trading was below 30 so it looked oversold and ready for a rebound.
Conclusion:
I think pravesh1 (Top Bear) and WeeValue (Top Bull) have both made good cases for buying this stock at its current price of around $36.

trucking industry. sold short OSK today in real life portfolio @27.8/share. Was surprised shares were actually available to short. Reduced position in my BGU short to balance my net short exposure.

Undervalued based on earnings growth and JLG aquisition. Should post stronger earnings late 2007.

Lots of debt to not as much cash...does have a product for industries that will never ever go away...and regardless of economy the equipment needs to be maintained.

Good management. Oversold due to recession fears. Takeover potential.

The range of vehicles this company manufactures will always be in demand.
As long as there is construction, there will always be a need for cement trucks (slabs for homes, buildings, road construction and repair, etc.).
Military sales and contracts are a large portion of this business. All the vehicles being used now [2007] will need to be refurbished which OSK has received contracts to do. After the current conflicts end, the lessons learned will be applied to new designs, and I am fairly confident that OSK will get its fair share of the contracts to build replacement / new vehicles. OSK has been providing vehicles to the military for at least 67 years.
As the population continues to grow, the demand for fire trucks will as well in cities, counties, and airports in order to meet safety requirements.
JLG's are handy little machines, and with the recent acquisition of this company OSK has created a bigger niche in the specialy vehicle area.
There will always be a need to have maintenance done on these vehicles as well - lots of service contracts.

OSK has received an 1.06 billion order for 1700 additional M-ATVs. Great earnings ahead.

A V shaped bottom to their new mine resistant trucks is so simple, it is genious. And it saves lives.

HOMELAND SECURITY, ON NATIONAL AND STATE LEVELS INCREASING FIRE
AND SERVICE VEHICLE FLEETS. THE ARMED FORCES ARE LOSING VEHICLES
IN IRAQ AT AN ALARMING RATE. THESE
VEHICLES NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH SHOULD KEEP THIS SEGMENT OF THE BUSINESS UP.

Strong managed company, future growth will increase with new job opportunities within the manufacturing arenna!

This was at a 52 week low yesterday.
With a forward PE ratio of 8 something and a PEG under .5, this is worth looking at. The only worrisome thing I see is a lot of debt. But for quarterly earnings growth of 73%, I will forgive a lot.

They make good and innovative trucks. They also have a piece of the military armored truck pie. They are beginning to become more sophisticated at pursuing government contracts by hiring a lobbyist. I feel there is pent up demand for municiple vehicles as well, and now that federal and state coffers are starting to fill from capital gains from the growth of the economy over the last few years, I think that there will be an increase in demand for their utility vehicles as well (fire protection, airport support, etc.)

Experiment time... I will pick whatever stocks that are on the cold 5 star list on the last trading day of each month. There is no research involved other what is on the cold 5 star list at the end of each month. Each pick will be for one year. Lets see where this goes...
