PowerShares Global Clean Energy (PBD)
Recs
Green energy won't show its true potential until oil is sky high again.
Recs
There ir a lot of room for Clean Energy development.
Recs
clean energy = the future.. hippies will ensure it.
Recs
Clean technology is going to be heavily invested on around the world in the 21st century.
Also, PBD has advantages over PBW because it is a global fund (vs. a US fund); this increases the available equities for investment and helps to hedge against a drop in the value of the US dollar.

3 months or 3 years, these are companies of the future.

Obviously Global Clean Energy is a great play over the next decade. It has also held up under the current economic crisis fairly well. Put the money in and ride it long.
Recs
Alternative energy now, the standard and ONLY energy in the near and far future.
Recs
Includes global companies that provide products and services that improve the current use of fossil fuels by increasing efficiency and reducing pollution.
Recs
Big push by Obama for alternative and green energy. These guys invest in a broad variety of such technologies across the globe.
Recs
Great ETF. Green is coming. Protect your legacy. Buy Smart, Buy Green.
Recs
Clean energy should be here to stay
Even if the price of conventional energy retreats for a while, clean energy is something to look for the future
Recs
Adding some alternative energy ETFs to see how they do over the coming year or two.
Recs
Invests in alternative energy

A lot of the shares in this are over-hyped and over-valued,
but I still think it will outperform because the opportunity is
so large and the need so great.

As clean energy ETF's go, this is currently my favourite. Better than PBW because it has global exposure. A lot of strong renewables companies are international, especially european. And because it is global it gives better protection against US recession or US dollar depreciation. I also like it better than GEX because it has more diversification, and is less heavy on the glam-stocks, such as FSLR and Vestas. These are good companies, but the stock prices are way high - I'd rather not have them making up as much as 10% of the ETF. PBD has a range of renewable technologies (less weighted to solar), and also has some interesting demand management companies such as ELON or COMV - companies that I am interested in, but am not confident of picking winners. So many small "alternative energy" stocks to choose from, along with behemoths that have small units devoted to the area, many of which will be long-term losers. So I like ETFs in this space, especially the more diversified ones. PBD, in particular, appeals because it has a less-concentrated portfolio that PBW or GEX, and has more International exposure. With high oil prices here to stay, constant talk of global warming and carbon emissions, large government subsidization of alternative fuel sources, and everyone looking for long-term answers, I think continued exponential growth of solar, wind, battery technology, etc, is a no brainer for the next 5-10 years. The volatility will be extreme (as the past 18 months have shown), but the leaps will likely be higher than the drops.
