oil and gas, oil and gas, oil and gas! I remained convinced that world wide demand coupled with geopolitical factors in crucial oil producing countries will lift the prices of both oil and gas now and into the immediate future!

I doubt that the price of gas and oil stays high with all of the production coming online now...expect lower distributions ahead

PBT has an annual dividend of $0.60 with a yield of 4.3%,Plus good capital gains. Since 2002 they have consistently increased dividends, coupled with Low debt, and good ready cash also throw in low to reasonable p/e. I think this stock will do well.

As economies around the world heat up and demand for oil increases, the higher prices for crude will be drawn directly to the bottom line of this consistent performer.

A US oil trust owns mineral permits (here the Wadell Ranch and a few others) and another company, here Conoco Phillips, pays royalty to the trust to produce the oil and gas. The royalties are passed as dividends. Once all the oil and gas has been produced, the trust is worthless and liquidated.

So, looking at the 2010 annual report p30, the trust filed to the US government the following reserve in December 2010: 6 millions barrel of oil and 22 millions barrels of gas.

Running the economics at $90 for a barrel of oil and $4 for a CF of gas (2010 industry standard), the value of the resources in the ground is 600 millions. Assuming oil and gas cost nothing to produce! To compare with the market value of PBR: 900 millions now.

Assuming a constant production rate at 2010 values, the field will be depleted in 8 years (see 2010 annual report p21).

Since oil does cost money to produce, investing in this fund is betting on $200 per barrel of oil on average in the next 8 years, or hope recovery techniques will double the reserves... that just to recover in taxable dividends your initial investment...

Buy and forget dividend play. Do not reinvest dividends.

Trades basically on capitalizing of the dividend. As long as making demand for its lines dividends will go up.

Another royalty trust benefiting from rising oil and gas prices. As long as natural gas and oil keep going up so will this company. Investors are looking for dividends and this is a pretty easy business to understand. I don't see energy falling this year.

Energy is one of the long term places to be. I feel that we are 15 to 20 years out from alt energy making significant inroads on oil and gas usage. Barring a global meltdown, oil can only go up from here. Too many people not enough energy.

Prices for gas will continue to rise, a safe dividend makes this an attractive, defensive, high ROI stock.

Oil prices will go up (duh!), domestic oil has few risks, and the dividend will keep the volatility at bay.

I've been in and out of this stock for a couple years now, it tends to oscillate over year over year between $9 and $15 with an 8% div. It pays out most earning in divs so the stock price growth tends to maximize then people start to get greedy and cash in. At low end I believe the div was about 13%. It's at high end and seems to be resisting about $15.5 now I bought at $14.5ish cuz at the time it looked like it might be headed down. I believe thats only a matter of time, especially since the earnings have taperred.
