Yes, it's a global company, but even its "healthy" drinks are packed full of sugar, and as local governments and schools focus more on preventative health demand will decrease with the next generation.

Great product, I like Diet Pepsi vs Diet Coke myself. As good as mgmt is they slipped up lately and are a target of AFA and a boycott of the products based on Pepsi giving big $$ and support to the Gay community. AFA usually wins and sales usually drop at companies they target. If PEP follows the trend, look for lower revenue for the next few months at least.

I'll be the guy who goes against the grain for the following reasons:

1. There is and will be a rapidly expanding potatoe shortage until we get into the Canadian crop, which is several months away. Frito Lay's buying power may prevail, but they will pay more and will be unable to pass on all of the cost.

2. High fructose corn syrup is getting more expensive; see reasoning above.

3. Midwest flooding disrupts shipments of Quaker products, and shuts down one of their plants.

4. As the economy treads water, people will begin cutting out small luxeries like soda and may replace small meals with snacks, but this goes back to reason #1.

Hard to imagine a huge multinational such as Pepsi lagging behind S&P, but it happens occasionally. Expect a marketing push in late spring to raise summer revenues and give the earnings outlook a bit of a boost. For now, buy and wait.

PepsiCo has a robust business, however, it does not seem likely to perform with the market in the next 1-2 months.

Pepsico has been relying on productivity gains within it's Frito-Lay division to deliver profits. This has reached a plateau that will limit the companies ability to keep delivering double-digit earnings growth.
