I am a fan of Perry Ellis clothing and most of my closet is Perry Ellis (more then any other brand). While I am putting this down for outperform, I am not so sure if I will see much in the short term on this one. Even though I am a foolishly loyal fan, I find it is not as well a known brand name as other retail/clothing companies when I talk about the brand with others and I do not own shares either.

Inventories are way too high and that's a concern, but this is a good brand that I think will weather a downturn. People still need to buy clothes and accessories, and people who usually buy higher end may find themselves cutting corners and saving by shopping at Macy's where they'll be impressed by Perry Ellis' selection at a good price.

A StatsGeek pick turned my attention to this. It's a solid mid-range brand and should continue to sell. It should be trading at at least 12x earnings, which it's still a ways off from.

The stock has probably been battered during the last few weeks because of the market conditions and the company lowering its 2008 earning estimates. I still believe it's a strong brand and will do well next year. The recent buyback should also help.

Perry Ellis brand featured prominently in Nordstrom stores, brand momentum shooting through the roof. A brand they own, Penguin, has been featured prominently on HBO's Entourage, a big boost. All of their brand portfolio is high-end. Look for some monster sales growth.
