PowerShares Dividend Achievers (ETF) (PFM)

CAPS Rating:
**

Investment trusts/funds.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Dividend ETF - so basically this is another cheapie, but I'm also curious to learn more about ETFs and how closely they actually track. So far they all seem to be pretty accurate for at least the first few months, but eventually costs result in a not-insignificant fractional loss. In real life the...More

Dividend-paying stocks, like value stocks, have had a great run since the "growth crash" started in 2000. But any rally that goes too long becomes a bubble, and every bubble ends with a "pop." What makes it worse in this case is that (1) several dividend-seeking ETFs like this one have allowed investors to further inflate prices and reduce yields of these stocks, and (2) corporations have reduced their dividend payments in favor of buybacks, making the old-fashioned high-yield stock an endangered species.

I'm placing my bets on a dividend crash.

Dividend ETF - so basically this is another cheapie, but I'm also curious to learn more about ETFs and how closely they actually track. So far they all seem to be pretty accurate for at least the first few months, but eventually costs result in a not-insignificant fractional loss. In real life the dividends will cover that, but I think you're maybe better off just picking out a couple high-yield stocks that you trust (my personal favorite is ACAS) and going with them.

In other words, there is a No. 1 stock in CAPS and a worst-ranked stock in CAPS. When you arrive at the top-ranked stock, clicking "Beat this Stock!" will cause the page to refresh.

That is, until there is a new No. 1 stock!
